Lando perked up. Admittedly, he had grown tired of the council for the better part of an hour. He had not realized they were discussing far-flung regions when nearby towns still remained fractured. “The North? Do they even care about anything south of their borders?”
The northerners had remained north of the Neck while the rest of the realm battled for the country’s future.
“They certainly care about the Riverlands,” replied Ser Daniel Baratheon of the Kingsguard. “The new Lord of Winterfell has Tully blood in him.”

the lewis/max political drama in strange customs is sooooo interesting!! i was living for the lore drops interwoven!! can i confirm that max is a targaryen? how did the redfyre rebellion come to be? was it a succession crisis like in hotd? but also… lando having a targaryen mother…. so he has a claim to the throne….. imagining lando sitting the iron throne and oscar stark as the kingmaker and his hand ohhh this is getting my own creative juices flowing i love this au so much!!!!

I haven't revealed much in Chap 1 about the Redfyre Rebellion but it's fashioned after 2 great rebellions in the Targaryen dynasty: Blackfyre Rebellion, where smaller houses gathered behind legitimized bastards for the throne, and Robert's Rebellion. It's a succession crisis in the sense Lewis doesn't have an heir lol and won't name one and the realm's like tf dude this is supposed to be a dynasty right and the thinking is: well, if the king won't name an heir, then it's a free for all right? emilian targaryen (max) became the prominent figure bc even great houses supported him. notably houses lannister and tyrell. his mother is from the westerlands. (inspired by how fucking viscious red bull is = lannisters' ceaseless plots) the bits and pieces woven into the story is inspired by how robert's rebellion is discussed in the mainline books, and also bc the rebellion succeeded.
oscar currently has some bigger troubles than a seat in the south but everyone is playing the game of thrones, whether they know it or not
