Carmelitas are rich chocolate-caramel oatmeal bars that will make your sweet tooth happy. They are a delicious treat for any event because they have a buttery oatmeal crust, gooey caramel, and rich chocolate between the layers.
Ingredients: 1 cup caramel sauce. 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips. 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats. 3/4 cup all-purpose flour. 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar. 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted. 1/4 teaspoon baking soda. 1/4 teaspoon salt.
Instructions: Preheat the oven to 350F 175C. Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later. In a mixing bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the melted butter until the mixture is crumbly. Press half of the oat mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan. Bake for 10 minutes. Remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips evenly over the baked crust. Pour the caramel sauce evenly over the chocolate chips layer. Sprinkle the remaining oat mixture evenly over the caramel layer. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Allow the Carmelitas to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack. Once cooled, use the parchment paper overhang to lift the bars out of the pan. Cut into squares and serve.
