break | lennox & hero
The moment fresh air broke the Great Hall seemed to send people into a frenzy, like animals who’d been caged for years and finally seeing a patch of blue sky. Truthfully, they’d only been in the hall a could of hours now, and though Lennox was irritated and annoyed at almost everyone and everything, the promise of a walk around the grounds for a few minutes buoyed his spirits. His little group, which had been selected at random by Professor Longbottom, milled around the open doors - the chosen ones in a sea of unfortunates. Lennox could smell the cool night air, and he followed the group blindly as they headed out, the small handful of them jostling one another to get out faster. He had tunnel vision, walking toward the open doors and the setting sun that was rapidly disappearing behind the trees of the forest - Lennox wanted to break through the door and just run; keep running, maybe, until he couldn’t stand. He wasn’t claustrophobic, but being caged with so many voices and people and things was a lot, and his patience had worn thin hours ago.
As he emerged into the open air and took a lungful, Lennox finally looked around him and noticed that in the swarm of third and fourth years who’d been selected for his group, there was one other seventh year - none other than Hero. She looked like a caged animal, all wild, manic eyes that hinted at things she was plotting inside her mind - never a good look. “Enjoying the break from the Hall, I take it?” Lennox asked, walking over to her while the group started to dawdle in a loose herd, following Professor Longbottom. Lennox fell into step beside Hero. “I don’t know if it’s made worse by the fact that we just have to turn around and go back in sooner rather than later.”
