Massive wooden doors from a Spanish monastery (second photo) open onto the expansive atrium cum gallery of Eva and Michael Chow’s Holmby Hills, California, mansion - inspired by Madrid’s Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia. Archways combining Moorish, Chinese and Mexican design elements are repeated inside and out. The spare, lofty space where all rooms converge is flanked at either ends by limestone fireplaces. Over one hangs a painting by Julien Schnabel of Eva wearing her Vivienne Westwood wedding dress; over the other a painting by Jean-Michel Basquiat depicts Michael in the ‘80s. Other than for the Giacometti-inspired lamps on pedestals designed by Michael Chow, an Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann piano is the only furniture in the space. The large abstract expressionist-style painting is also by Mr. Chow. * #michaelchow #evachow #spanishrevivalarchitecture #moorishdesign #artcollector #modernart #jeanmichelbasquiat #julienschnabel #emilejacquesruhlmann #artdeco #artmoderne #luxemodern #livingwithart #giacometti #holmbyhills #californialiving #atrium #courtyard https://www.instagram.com/p/BsdSO0BFKqi/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=xwgfafqanuti
