It doesn't make the little pink flower any less beautiful... Last week I visited a David Hockney exhibition. Today, I look back at one of his works, and what do I see? I see colour. I see the beauty of different coloured leaves, different coloured flowers, different shapes, and yes, even a purple bark, working together to create one harmonious whole. It doesn't make the little pink flower any less beautiful. No-one questions why there is all this diversity, but that is the beauty in nature, and that is also the beauty in Art and Culture. I have read the Guardian's article on the artists' reaction to the EU Referendum. Of course, there is a mixture of emotions. We are confused, we are incredulous, we are sad, we are angry. But the most beautiful of these interviews are the ones that are promoting looking towards the future and continuiung to create. I look at the Hockney again - and there is a path that sort of stops half-way... but it does not really stop, does it? It changes colour, but it continues towards the unknown... This is where I think we are now. I am, of course, saddened. It all still feels so surreal. I truly believe in Europe. Yes there are things that needed, and still need, to be looked at, but there is such a wealth of positives - no-one can put a figure on the value of unity, on peace, on solidatity, on freedom, on truth. I say again, I hope and pray that everything is thoroughly considered and done slowly and wisely. We were all given a chance to make a decision which would affect, not just our lives, but the lives of future generations and the world as a whole. I took that duty very seriously. We are so lucky to live in a Europe where we have a right to make our own choices. We sometimes take all of this so for granted. I live in England, but I have never renounced my Maltese nationality, and never will. I am proud of it - hugely so. I am proud of being a Mediterannean. But I am also a proud European and I still cannot comprehend why we would wish to turn our backs on being part of a unified whole, apart from, sadly, this being the result of a deceitful campaign. I say again - The world was not yours to play with. People's lives and futures are not there to be gambled with. Let us all become one of those yellow, orange, green, brown, purple, pink leaves, flowers and barks to help continuously colour the world's canvas. I have been lucky to be able to create wonderful things in different EU countries and with different nationalities (not just European) and will continue to do so. I believe in synergy, in partnership, in the marvellous things that come out of collaboration. I believe in the whole being greater than the sum of its parts. And I believe that just like in every other era when there has been social turmoil, the Arts will react, will try to flourish in this period of uncertainty, will work together even more to show the beauty of working together and of what we can create together. We campaigned so strongly to save the EUYO - I wonder what England's young musicians position will be in all of this now. I apologize to all young artists that I was part of a society that has allowed this to happen to you. However, let us all look at that path together and colour it beautifully in our own minds and make it a reality. https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2016/jun/24/arts-hit-back-at-brexit-i-feel-nothing-but-rage
