jia was always up for a good party, but not like this. the lyrics “i’m in the corner watching you kiss her-- i’m right over here, why can’t you see me” was exactly how she felt at this moment. usually she was down for a good party, basking in the glow coming off of her flushed red cheeks and feeling the pounding of the bass coming from the house speakers. but tonight, she was kicking herself for ever thinking she would be okay being at the same party as the guy who made her believe in love just for a minute, and then took it all away. it made her wince just to even look at him in the corner with his tongue around a random girl’s throat.
even being around her girls didn’t make her feel any better -- by this point they were already too drunk and into their euphorias to take care of her. and it was okay -- it was her turn this time to take care of them, which also meant that she couldn’t leave early even if she wanted to. with her back on the wall, she sighed. maybe she could get through this night in one piece. swirling the drink in the red cup she was holding, she took a sip -- not even the distinct bitterness of alcohol could somehow make him disappear from her view or make things feel better.
