Eurelectric , which represents Europe's electricity industry (generation, transmission and distribution), is calling for a cap on the wholesale price of natural gas "at a level that will truly protect consumers" .
A statement from the presidency sent to the EU emphasized that the rise in gas prices was the real reason for the rise in electricity prices.
Eurelectric proposes a series of measures to reduce the EU's energy dependence and address the ongoing "unprecedented" situation. These include, in addition to the gas ceiling:
Accelerate the development of renewable energy sources, among other things, by facilitating licensing.

- The application of incentives for the energy upgrade of buildings.
- The development and modernization of electricity networks.
