According to the anime Eren's reluctance to fight Annie is so strong that it rules out every other aspect of his character. Eren isn't one to hesitate and usually takes action right away, so him hesitating to fight Annie despite knowing what she did means a lot. Eren still hesitating when Armin and Mikasa are risking to get killed sure must implicated that Annie is more important to him than even his childhood friends – or what is it that you're trying to tell me anime? Oh wait, never mind, because by the time Eren actually does transform, he's so consumed with rage that it doesn't even matter that he and Annie ever had dinner in the same room.
