EU Open Day! I finally managed to attend thanks to Cec. Once a year the EU Parliament and Council open their doors to the public. (Not sure about the Commission.) I always managed to find out about it AFTER the fact and would then vow to pay more attention the next year only to have it happen again (or to be out of town, as also often happens).
Thanks to the tour I was finally able to see inside the building I drive past everyday on my way home from work, the Europa Building (more commonly known as the Egg). It was really exciting to be in rooms where world leaders had met. We saw the extensive efforts behind translation. (Sooo impressive that many translators speak a minimum of 5-6 languages.) We also learned that the exterior of the building is made of oak framed windows sourced from each of the 28 member nations, which I thought was pretty neat.
