Joon Woo felt the currents beneath his surfboard as he shifted his weight to either side. The wave he’ surfed along was particularly high and the demigod could feel the rush of adrenaline at the prospect of the towering wall of water crashing over him. A smile came over his face.
He let his powers fuel the ocean’s momentum, could feel the shift in the currents as he made changes to the atmosphere around him. For once, he felt in control. A surge of pride rushed forth at the thought.
If he was child, the water would paralyze him, the thought of being pulled in by the ocean’s power too much to bear. Now, though, Joon Woo felt alive. He’d never felt more like himself than he did in the ocean. His excitement grew even as he tried to rein it in. He couldn’t let his emotions get out of control.
But it was too late. His burst of wild excitement destroyed the balance he’d so carefully created, causing the incoming wave to grow exponentially larger. Joon Woo angled his board for the shoreline, knowing he couldn’t surf a wave of that size. But upon nearing the sands, he noticed a figure.
“Look out!” he shouted, because the figure was in the wave’s destructive path—the one Joon Woo had created.
