 I will utilize connections and resources I have to gain better insight into the current landscape of the architecture field and learn how to better navigate the tough job market. I will also seek out new mentors that can offer other perspectives to learn from.

At PCA, they created a culture that revolves around mentorship by giving each employee a mentor to look up to, learn, and grow. The mentor also becomes a second opinion for firms to see potential growth in positions and salary.

Hearing the interactions the firms have with the clients have been eye opening. They have created a dedicated list of clients that always reach back to them for new development because of the trust and quality of work they create here.

Through Justice, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusive initiative (JEDI), PCA are actively aware of the challenges being faced by marginalized groups in the field. They take part in informative meetings throughout the year that teaches their employees they can improve their office to become a more intercultural competent workplace. Through conversations with different employees, you can tell that they are open and eager to hear new perspectives from people with different backgrounds.

We also had the opportunity to meet with a couple designers and learn how PCA are taking steps to create a more inclusive and just workplace. It was great to see that they are continually updating to make improvements of inclusivity while holding themselves accountable.

My name is Ethan and I am starting my second year as a Master of Architecture student at the BAC. I come from the midwest where I grew up in Minnesota before moving to Milwaukee to earn my B.S. in Architectural Studies degree. My goal for my career is to create architecture that promotes empathy and craftsmanship for underprivileged communities. I look forward to spending an amazing week with PCA!
