Hey!! Thanks for asking, I can’t believe there’s someone who still remembers that I used to actually post things on this blog! I’ll admit I haven’t been reading as often in recent years, but here are some books I’ve enjoyed recently now that I’ve been reading a bit again!

1. The Fifth Season by N. K. Jemisin (Book One of the Broken Earth series): I almost don’t want to say anything about the actual book because I won’t be able to do it justice?? Jemisin has the best writing I’ve ever seen. I haven’t had time to finish this trilogy yet because, honestly, I’m still digesting book one. High fantasy with a sci-fi twist and some seriously powerful punch-to-the-gut prose in the best way possible. A mom can cause earthquakes and if that ain’t a mood, I don’t know what is.

2. Gods of Jade and Shadow by Silvia Moreno-Garcia: Maya mythology meets the roaring 20s in Mexico! Village woman goes on a road trip with the god of death and gives exactly zero shits about any of the mythological fuckery that happens along the way. 

3. The Riddle-Master’s Game trilogy by Patricia McKillip: The start of the Riddle-Master trilogy is admittedly a bit slow, but McKillip’s writing has a dreamlike quality and some of the hardest-hitting lines I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading! The main character of the first book loves his friends and is kind to animals and just wants to go home. His BDE is off the fuckin’ charts. Book 2 of this trilogy (which I haven’t finished yet but have on good authority that this trilogy is GREAT) involves absolutely feral women on a road trip. Not even the powers of God and anime combined can stop them.

4. Just because I re-read it recently Howl’s Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones: The way this book reads is just a delight. To anyone who liked the Studio Ghibli movie, I beg of you please read this book. It’s basically nothing like the movie and you will love it anyway.
