"She basically puppeteered me.”
Okay, so, the X-Men’s recent fight hadn’t gone super well. They had pretty much all been KO’d in the beginning -- Laura included. Lorna had been the last man standing, and her decision to manipulate the metal in Laura’s body to fling her unconscious form around had been a bold one, to say the least. Laura wasn’t mad, though. The whole X-Men thing had been a massive trial and error with lots and lots of errors; ergo, the very public death of one Scott Summers and the recent appearance of Captain Krakoa. It was a humbling experience that they were all going through together. While Laura was being outed for not knowing how to swim, Everett was thriving. He was synching with people who weren’t even on planet and well on his way to be classified as an Omega level mutant.
Sure, things had been weird between them in the past. They partly still were. Everett kept the centuries they spent in the Vault in his mind and Laura -- Laura, who was brave and feared little -- was too scared to share them. It created a tension between the two of them that was sometimes had to maneuver, but they recently they had dropped any and all expectations for one another. Everett was a teammate and a friend. He had been something more to a version of Laura who had failed to see the light of day once more. Maybe one day they’d find their way again, but in the moment Laura was peeling off the top of her uniform with a shake of her head.
“If you ever synch up with Lorna, you do not have permission to do the same.”
