Pedro quiere salvar a Cataluña

 Pedro Sánchez lleva 50 días en la Moncloa y está dispuesto a seguir ahí ganando las próximas elecciones. Para ello ha de convencer a la gente – al electorado – de que es el mejor presidente que podría tener España. No será difícil destacar si se le compara con el anterior Gobierno que, capitaneado por Mariano Rajoy, se le tildó de inmovilista en numerosas ocasiones.

Com que aquest viatge, amb alguna excepció com la que ahir esmentava, és aproximadament repetit, repeteixo també records i sensacions. De fet, la Comunitat Autònoma que va costar més de constituir a Espanya, un cop aprovada aquella Constitució del 78 que encara dura, fou la de Castella-Lleó. Fa només tres anys el panorama polític canvia radicalment. Una part significativa del poble català, i alguns partits, giren full de la via autonomista per endinsar-se en un terreny desconegut, el de construir un Estat per Catalunya que ens equipari a la majoria de nacions. Allò que havíem sigut fins al 1714, un Estat, necessitem tornar-ho a ser, posat al dia.

OK, here's the way I see it: If the people of Catalonia want their own state independent from the rest of Spain, that is their prerogative and their right. So what if the Spanish constitution says no? That constitution is illegitimate anyway - it was written before Franco's body had even gone cold and it was voted upon under dubious circumstances. Specifically, the politicians who got together to coördinate the "transition" to "democracy" presented the constitutional referendum as a choice between limited democracy complete with a king hand-picked by Franco himself, or a continuation of the dictatorship. Any option for a federal republic was off the table. And thirty years later, the Spanish state still does not respect Catalonia's autonomy, striking down a revision of the region's statue that defined it as a 'nation'.
