The mysterious Snake Lady has come to town with the circus. She spotted Mademoiselle Pizazz in the crowd on opening night and has not been able to stop thinking of her since. She had style, she had flair, she was there and a singular beauty among the rough crowd. When Josephine overheard that Penny is on the hunt for a partner in crime, she couldn’t resist trying her hand at winning her hand. Though Jo is but a lowly circus performer, she has many talents most are unaware of. There are precious few that know that she’s actually a spellcaster born and raised. On the dueling grounds is where she spent most of her days. And at night she studied ophiology. The ways of her beloved snakes. No one understood her fascination. She took to keeping a pet python she called Eliza. It frightened most. She became tired of the whispers and accusations of evildoing. Having a pet snake and a wicked wit do not make one sinister by default! When her parents tried to place constricting expectations upon her life, she stole away in the night. The money she’d managed to pilfer from them didn’t last long and so she spent several years picking pockets to make ends meet and honing her charms to get away with it. One night, when the circus came to town, she managed to sneak inside. Enraptured by what she witnessed there, she immediately talked the owner into letting her join. He was very impressed when she produced a large python seemingly from nowhere and began to charm her. Ever since she’s been living a life of freedom. Lonely, freedom. She’s had some partners along the way, but none that felt like home. None that sparked her mind or moved her soul. She’s hoping that Penny is more than just a pretty face in the crowd.

She and Freddy genuinely care for one another, but neither of them has ever been fully honest with the other. He's marrying her out of a sense of duty and because he believes that he needs a wife to prove that he's outgrown his "party prince" reputation. She's marrying him out of a desire for comfort and security and because she's a little bit in love with the idea of being the Nice, Quiet Girl who wins the heart of the Wild, Desirable Boy even though everyone's always overlooked her. It wasn't an arranged marriage, but it was something like one, and neither of them have acknowledged that their relationship has outgrown its original parameters.

I don't think the relationship is inherently doomed. They could set aside the pretext of duty and his status as royal spare, fall deeply in love, and have a conventional marriage. They could agree to treat their marriage as a business arrangement and public performance and lead separate lives in private. They could decide that they aren't right for one another and part as friends. However, going down any one of those paths would require a greater degree of emotional honesty than either of them have displayed thus far. Figuring out how to communicate with one another isn't outside of the realm of possibility, but right now they're barreling toward disaster by avoiding difficult conversations.

Marrying Freddy without confronting him about Theo (and about the way he communicates with her, in general) is a huge fuck-up and it remains to be seen whether she can pull their relationship out of its nose dive or if they're all going to crash and burn.

is "sim michael" his first name, and "buble" his last name, or is "sim" a title like mr. or dr. or whatever. this has been driving me crazy i need to know

7. favorite animal? why?

I haven't ever considered this for any of my characters, actually. There's some obvious answers (Avra, for example), but for most of them it's a mystery to me. A part of me wants to say magpies, but that might just be because I love corvids and we also met the CUTEST magpie-man in Rune's last session. (His name is Locke and we all love him so much.)
