My day job away from Tumblr is charity fundraising. Weâve submitted two bids today. One for ÂŁ40K (employment and ESOL for folks who are NEET, not in education, employment or training). And another one for ÂŁ5K (a radio drama writing workshops project). You have to âfeel the fear and do it anywayâ to press send on emails like this, and pray for no silly typos or mathematical booboos.

Your eyes widen at the sudden contact of the boy in front of you. You quickly removed your body from his in a quick motion and apologized.
"I'm sorry." You bowed slightly. The boy eyed you with a small smile.
"It's fine. It was my fault, too. I should've watched where I was going."
From the years you've attended this school, you've also seen the feminine boy around. He had always peaked your interest with the way he carried himself and how quiet he always seems to be until his friends come along. You've always wondered what it was like if you, too, were friends with him.
"You're, umâ you're yeonwoo, right?" You nervously questioned him. Your fingers were intertwined as you opted to avoid his eyes as he stared at you curiously.
"How do you know my name?"
You wondered if you should tell the truth. How you're usually silently following behind him and his group of friends as you low-key listen into their conversation. Or how one time he accidentally dropped a piece of paper from his math class and you kept it with you ever since.
Yes, you were a little obsessed, but you were sure Yeonwoo would understand.
"I've seen you here and there. You're quite well knownâespecially with your group of friends."
The teen face faded into red as he grew embarrassed at the thought.
"I didn't know I was that popular."
"Not as popular as Kang Haesolâ" The boy stayed quiet. "Oh! Sorry. I didn't mean it in a rude way. It's just.. you know."
He giggled. "Well, that is true. I'm not as popular as Kang Haesol. She's amazing and I'm justâ"
"Amazing as well. You don't need everyone to know you just to truly know how beautiful you areâer.."
His face continued to flush a deeper red. "Thank you.. I guess." He muttered the last part.
"Um..." You stared at your feet. Your fingers continued to fight each other as you gather to courage to ask Yeonwoo out. "Would it be alright if we hang out more often? I think you're really cool and I'd like to be friends with you if it's possible."
The boy eyes widen at this. He couldn't help the smile that grew to reach the corner of each of his eyes. He felt honored that someone was willing to be his friend (other than the friends he have, of course).
"OhâYes. Maybe we can set a day to hangout? I'll be free tomorrow during lunch, so maybe we can know more about each other then?"
Your heart was fluttering inside of your chest. You've never felt this excited about meeting someone, but to you, Yeonwoo was different. Different from the other students, especially. You had to be friends with him.
"YESâyes. I'm free tomorrow. I'll see you theâ"
The bell to move to the next class rung. You cleared your throat at this and waved at the boy before you.
"I'll see you tomorrow." You left his sight and quickly made your way to your class with an accomplished smile.
Yeonwoo had always been a thoughtful and observant person, but he had never experienced anything like what happened one particular day in the hallway. It was a regular school day, filled with the usual buzz of students moving between classes. Yeonwoo was walking with his best friend, Junhyuk, who had a mischievous streak. As they navigated the crowded corridor, Junhyuk playfully threw an arm around Yeonwooâs shoulders, adding extra weight that made Yeonwoo stumble slightly.
It was in that brief moment of imbalance that Yeonwoo collided with someoneâsomeone he hadn't noticed before. He looked up, his heart skipping a beat when he met the gaze of a girl with a stoic expression and an aura of quiet confidence. She was tall and striking, her intelligence evident even in her calm demeanor. Yeonwooâs breath caught in his throat.
"I'm so sorry!" Yeonwoo stammered, his cheeks flushed with embarrassment. As he gazed up at her, something clicked within him. He felt a jolt of emotion he couldnât quite place, but it was unmistakably strong.
"It's alright" the girl said and walked away, her presence lingering in Yeonwooâs mind. From that day forward, Yeonwoo found himself inexplicably drawn to her. He began to admire her from afar, always keeping her in his line of sight wherever he could.
During lunchtime in the canteen, Yeonwooâs eyes would follow her every move, his heart fluttering each time she move or spoke with friends. He cheered the loudest when she participated in the school sports festival, feeling a rush of pride and joy as she excelled in her events.
Yeonwoo took every opportunity to capture candid photos of her when she wasnât looking, his phone filled with pictures of her in various momentsâeach image a treasured memory. He would spend hours playing with the flames of his initials and hers, daydreaming about a future where they were together. He often imagined their wedding, envisioning a life where he could be by her side.
Yet, his infatuation was not without its challenges. Whenever he saw Haesol with someone close to her, his heart ached with jealousy and sadness. The sight of her with others, whether in deep conversation or sharing a laugh, would bring tears to his eyes. He would cry himself to sleep at night, praying to God for the chance to be the one she turns to.
Yeonwooâs feelings were a bittersweet mix of longing and hope, a secret admiration that drove him to cherish every moment he could be near her, even if from a distance. Despite the heartache, he held onto his dreams, believing that one day, his feelings might turn into something real.

Look, sometimes you need to interrupt an ESOL lesson to ask the translator on the phone to tell one of our senior students that they look cool as hell.
