More of a story idea than a headcanon, but I've always wanted to write something about Shining Armor being trans. If only to lend a different significance to his status as Twilight's BBBFF.
There's a lot of potential there, and I hope you do give it a go. Shining's certainly a character who could use some more fleshing out, and I'm always interested in stories about sibling relationships. :) And, on a more personal note, when I first came out as trans to my family, my parents had a less than ideal reaction (shall we say) but my brother was really supportive right from the get-go.

it takes a really particular way to read a fic and then bash the author just for not including a character they wanted to see. did they not read the character tags
I have no idea. Though I will say, in fairness to the person who PMed me, that it wasn't only that Spike wasn't in the story. It was that the Mane Six were hanging out and Spike wasn't there with them.
