Writing some stuff about my Rook and I've decided the following:
Esh loves wearing gold jewelry. Has a lot of bangles, earrings, and rings that they wear casually and is honestly kind of jealous that Emmrich has more then them. Starts taking his one at a time without saying anything and wearing it, just to see how long it takes him to notice. Got to 5 bracelets, 4 rings, and a lapel pin worn as an earring before he noticed and Esh laughed for five minutes at how dumbfounded he looked. Gave it all back but later found a few unfamiliar bracelets in their jewellery box.
Two unfinished arts I don't believe I'm ever going to finish but wanted to share anyway.
First is a redraw of a scene between my Dovahkiin Sayna and her Thalmor half-brother Enadin. Started this back in 2023, this is the 3rd iteration of the scene, with the first being drawn ten years ago and the 2nd about 8 years ago. I'm sad I can't bring myself to finish it as it really is the best one and the faces are *chef's kiss* but the unfinished scene doesn't look bad either.
The second piece here is all of my Dragon Age Dwarf PCs together, as part of a alternate Veilguard story I've had bouncing around in my head. The aged Warden Commander Mira Aeducan leading Inquisitor Quora Cadash and Esh "Rook" Laidir to the location of her secret long term project to cure the blight, where many surprises await them. I'm... mixed on how I feel about where I left this. There's a lot I like, like the way their bodies look and seeing all my dwarves together, but I also feel like Mira and Esh's expressions are off, and the whole scene would have worked better as a three or four page comic then a single piece.
I was listening to my Warlock of the Undying themed playlist while reading some breakdowns about the Emmrich romance and thinking about my Lord of Fortune Rook when the verse

from Glory and Gore by Lorde played and oh fuckkkk me that's them. That's my Rook and Emmrich. I'm not recovering.

The Tower: How does Rook respond to unexpected catastrophe?
Heavily depends on what/who Esh sees as to blame for the catastrophe. Outside forces beyond Esh's control? Immediately in serious mode, gets their hands dirty, helping people and putting shit right.
If Esh perceives themself as the cause? Burst of blinding self directed rage. Cannot stand making any mistakes and becomes self destructive about it. Recovers quickly and is deeply embarrassed for awhile afterwards at both their reaction and their initial fuck up but does everything they can to put it right.
The Sun: What is Rook passionate about? How do they fuel that passion?
Esh lives for freedom and excess, the things they were denied as a slave and can now have as a Lord of Fortune. They're not greedy, though. They're always sharing the spoils of their treasure hunts and pirating shenanigans. They love being able to do that and anything else they want.
They spent their first few years with the Lords hunting slavers and Tevinter ships to free their slaves. Their own freedom was won by others and they see it only fit to pass freedom onto others wherever they can.
On a smaller scale, Esh LOVES cooking and is an amazing chef. In another life it'd be their career. They also love listening to other people talk, especially infodumping about the things they're passionate about. It's why they're so close to Bel and Emmrich.

Facts about my Rook, Esh Laidir:
Fantastic cook! Can make just about anything as long as you describe it first- its usually spot on. Extremely clumsy in the kitchen, however. Cannot be trusted with glass cookware.
Loves loves LOVES listening to other people talk about their favorite topic(s.) Bellara and Emmrich have an eager audience whenever they please.
ADHD. Struggles with RSD and emotional dysregulation. They're quick to anger without meaning to but also quick to cool off and apologize for getting angry. On the funny side of ADHD, caffeine knocks them the fuck out instead of energizes them and everyone thinks its bizarre.
Is thinking about growing a beard, maybe just a goatee?
Despite living most of their life by the water, sinks like a lead weight. They can swim but they panic if they get thrown into water without warning and completely shut down. The heavy armor doesnt help either. Has been dragged out of the sea by other Lords way more times then they'd admit.
Has a collection of sea glass in every possible color you can imagine.
