ESCAPISM
Unity, 2015
Escapism is an explorable environment built for IMCA Intermediate Video, of virtual spaces, online communities, and viral content with a focus on safety, community, and escapist tendencies. There is no goal and no exit, only space, visuals, and audio to explore and get lost in. Connectivity, global sharing, remix culture, therapeutic escapism and open-source knowledge clash with constant distraction, information overload, the very real danger of virtual addictions, and destructive escapism. Escapism is part of a larger body of work called Hushpuppy House that attempts to recreate spaces of self-therapy, escapism, community, and comfort, and to examine our both our healthy and not-so-healthy attitudes and interactions with these spaces.
