"I take it book club went well?" Talwyn nodded towards the radio playing unfamiliar music as he stepped into the kitchen and began setting down groceries.
"Yep!" Leo's shell spun in delight. "Ajax and his guardian ran across a couple of mostly recoverable hard drives while on patrol a while back, and the chryptarchs finally got around to converting the files yesterday."
"Oh hell yeah. Got any new favorites yet?"
"Mmm, I'm still listening to them all first. I think you might like this one though, it's got a weird liminal feel." Leo swooped down to scan the open bags as her Lightbearer opened the fridge to put the perishables away. "Speaking of favorites though, isn't this Sigil's fa—"
Talwyn whirled around and swiped the offending box out from under Leo's mischievous gaze, but it was already far too late.
"OooOO, so it is—"
"I am just trying to make sure he eats!" Tal interrupted loudly, cutting Leo off before she could sprint further into her latest favorite conversation topic. Traveler's ribs, couldn't she let it rest for one day? "And we're talking about your music right now. What's this song about?"
Leo's fins twitched in amusement, but she mercifully let it drop for the moment. "I'm not completely sure! The phrasing is odd and I can't quite tell if it's about friends or casual partners, but one of them is definitely struggling."
Talwyn tilted his head and listened intently as the chorus came back around.
"Friends, but the singer wanted to maybe be partners, I think. Where did you say they found the hard drives?"
"Near Old Detroit, but the metadata mentioned the artist was from Los Angeles."
"The drives had metadata on them and you didn't start with that? Utter cruelty. Mean to me in this house."
"The meanest." Leo spun around his head in cheerfully unrepentant agreement. "Ajax said he might slide it to his linguist friend over Archives, but they probably won't get to it for a while."
"Was there anything else on there by that artist, by any chance?"
"Yes, actually! No full albums sadly, but there were a couple other songs by that artist on there. I think you might like this one too..."
