hey, so I was wondering. What type of running do you do? Is it track or cross-country and distance? I'm a sprinter, but I've been trying to build up some endurance and start running distance. Do you have any tips?
DISTANCE 100%. I cannot sprint to save my life.
Basically my main tip would be build up your mileage. Work on getting it up to a pretty high-ish range (usually 50-60 ish), and then also instead of focusing on speed workouts (which are important but not at first), start doing tempo workouts. Tempos are basically fast workouts, but not all out. For example, my 5k pace is 6:18 about, so my tempos are anywhere from 6:35-6:50 pace. These get your legs moving faster, but not so fast to the point where you can't hold the pace for longer than a mile. The first mile of tempos usually feels easy-ish, and you'll be breathing a little harder, but usually I'm still able to say things and do some, very light, laughing. Of course it get's harder the more miles you do, but you get it.
After that just make sure you get in your easy/recovery day, and for another workout idea, long intervals. So 800 repeats or 1600 repeats are good, and these are usually at, or slightly below race pace. Between each interval you'd do a jog to recover, and then go again.
Finally DON'T FORGET THE LONG RUN. One run a week that should cover about 20% of your weekly mileage. You can go nice and slow, or some people like to do them kinda fast (I go slow), and it's sacred.
Best of luck, distance is great!
