    since giving birth to nick, lucy seemed to gravitate towards children. & with open arms she welcomed them, especially in a world like THIS one. they’re so young, nick and carl and sophia, too young to see all that they have; all of the death & decay of the world around them. she didn’t even want to BEGIN to think of how they would turn out, how badly all that they’ve already seen would mess them up.  all she can do now is try to help them, to show them that there is still good in this world; and that starts with a simple question.  ‘ are you hungry? ’
