the thing is, jinji didn't hesitate once he finished reading the report about what happened on punk hazard. smoker is tough, jinji knows this, but there was just no way a simple call though a den-den would assuage the worry that took seed in his chest. it would be best to see smoker with his own two eyes, he had decided, leaving a confused and mildly upset isadora behind but now that he was here. . .
rare the moment that a smile is not present on yamase jinji's face. currently not even the ghost of one is present. instead, whiskey eyes drag from bandages to skin until they meet smoker's face. his concern is written all over him; thick brows pinching together and lips drawn tight. anxiety holds his heart tightly and makes his chest physically hurt.
( his fingers twitch against his biceps, wanting to soothe the ache, as if that would do anything. )
his tongue sits like dead weight between his teeth, unable to fully form what- if anything- jinji had wanted to say. there's not even a joke he can crack to break the silence.
@crucifor : don't give me that look.
smoker's rumble brings jinji back to himself. with a blink he's looking away, finding a spot in the wooden walls to direct his apprehension at instead. it could have been worse, he reminds himself.
finally he gets his tongue working, "i read the report. i think i'm allowed a look."
