âAre you both ready?â Bianca asked the twins, helping them both get their boots on. The two twins nodded, remembering what their mother had told them the day before. For their hard-working fatherâs birthday, they would surprise him by waking up really early and getting some of his work done for him. Of course, it was only the simple stuff like weeding and watering the fields, but they were sure he would love it.
Of course, having a practically newborn baby was a challenge but baby Jo was making things a lot easier for her with how deeply she slept. Bianca was able to wrap her up in the sling wrap without much of a fuss at all; much to her relief. Sometimes, their baby girl could really fuss, an oh-so-familiar pouty face present on her face. However today, it was almost as if she knew how important it was.
âMommy!â Lucia peeped, trying to get her mother to hurry. When Bianca placed her finger to her lips, the little girl quickly covered her mouth and quietly giggled. âOopsies! I forgot...â Her mother held onto the little girlâs hand, a smile on her face. âItâs okay. Letâs go head outside.â
The sweet girl nodded, pulling her mother along to meet with her brother outside. He was holding a pair of pink gardening gloves in his hands and held them out to his sister when she ran over. âYou forgot..â He sighed, crossing his arms. Lucia pouted, shaking her head. âDid not! You just got them for me~â The boy rolled his eyes while his sister giggled but before he knew it, she was pulling him along to the fields.Â
While the kids weeded the plot, Bianca stuck with watering since it would be easier for her to do. Of course, she had to make sure the little ones werenât pulling out things they werenât supposed to... Although it was just the beginning of summer, the mornings were still pleasant. Usually, the young mother hated being out and about in the summer heat. However being out so early in the day before the sun was high in the sky was wonderful. There was a slight breeze that kept them cool as they did a portion of their man of the houseâs work.Â
Of course, Bianca knew they wouldnât be alone for long as she noticed the lights coming on in the house. She continued to work until she saw her husband walk outside. Mason and Lucia noticed him too and ran over to him. âDaddy!â Lucia shouted, relieved in the fact she didnât have to be too quiet anymore. Bianca walked over and joined the rest of her family, rubbing Johannaâs back as she stirred a bit.
âHappy Birthday, sweetheart.â She said, raising herself on her tiptoes to press a kiss to his cheek.

/Smiles/ A very satisfied customer. I believe my wife may have purchased something from you recently? The results were more than satisfactory!
Oh? Hey, so that means it came back positive?! Man, thatâs great to hear! Have you thought of any names? Actually, itâs probably too early for that, but... Just congrats!
/Laughs/ Oh yeah, they sure have. Lucia was trying to fight it as usual, but she was nodding off even though she kept telling me she wasnât tired! W-Well yes, why wouldnât I be? Itâs a big changeâŚbut itâs a good kind of nervous, I thinkâŚ
That sounds like her. Sheâs so silly! I canât wait until she wakes up all full of energy and claims she wasnât tired at all. *She smiles thinking about her children and it calms her down a bit.*
I just donât want to be the only one! *Takes a deep breath as she turns into their room and goes to the dresser where she kept the test.* Iâll be out in a bit... *Before she goes to the bathroom, she gives Erik a little kiss and smiles.*
*While in the bathroom, she opens the box and stares at the little stick. After a little bit, sheâs washed her hands and left the stick to rest on the box like the directions said.* Iâm leaving it in there, start the timer!
/Laughs/ Well, why shouldnât I be enthusiastic? Itâs a beautiful day, and I have a beautiful wife whoâs officially and willingly been tied down to me for two whole years, as of today!
*His answer makes her laugh and she kisses his cheek before getting out of their bed.* Oh? My oh my is that really today? *She walked around their room, playing dumb until turning to him with a smile.* Â Just kidding. Happy Anniversary, sweetheart.
/He sees the next message as heâs dusting off a shelf, as a result, he doesnât notice that his entire hand is covered in dust until he picks up his phone again. After shaking some of it off, he uses his other hand to respond:/ No you have to guess!Â
*A pout soon graces her features and she huffs before replying to him-- occasionally casting a glance towards the twins who are busy talking with each other about what they should paint.*
[Text:] I want to guess something... stupid..
*She sucks in her cheeks, trying to think if she should continue. Wrapping her lilac locks around her finger, she takes a deep breath before quickly sending a follow-up text.*

/After a long day, his mind has gotten tired as well, but heâs not asleep yet. Heâs completely spaced out, though, until the sound of Biancaâs voice and the snuggling prompt him to return to reality, and he turns to face her/ Ah! S-Sorry, I donât know why I completely zoned out like that all of a suddenâŚ
/Takes a deep breath and brings her closer with one arm, then bringing the other across to hold her in a sort of side-hug/ Of course, we can always talkâŚbut is something in particular the matter? /He knows the answer is probably yes, and that if the answer is no, then sheâs probably hiding whatever it is/
That's alright... Um... *She looks up at him pondering if she should bring this up or not. Shaking her head, a brief smile appears on her face.* No, nothing in particular.
*To distract herself, she plays with the soft fabric of his t-shirt and focuses on her fingers.* It's just that I got a letter from my uncle-- Herman. My cousin Rosalind delivered it personally.
/Strolls into the diner, twins in their stroller, hopefully having prepared for meeting one of Bianca's most allegedly eccentric relatives/ Um...hello? Is anyone there?
Just after finishing his fourth meal of the day, Porcoline put all his cooking appliances aside to start working on lunch. Porco heard someone call for him from the front door, he was confused for a second since Meg, Dylas and Arthur were usually out during the mornings. He walked over to the counter and found a tall young man with what seemed two babies on a stroll.
"Marvelous hello!" Porco said as he approached them. "Please do sit down, I'll bring you the 4 meal course special for the day." He finished with a big smile on his face.
The first time she notices is when sheâs mucking out the chicken coops.
âSara! The Pete came by with some flowers- woah.â She turns to see Bennet standing by the door, a disgusted expression on his face. âWhich hen did that?â
âThis one.â She wipes her mouth and straightens up. âGoddess that was weird. I didn't even feel sick or nothin'.â
âI uh- the Pete doesnât want that kiss now.â He holds his hands up in surrender. âBut Iâll put these in a vase for ya?â
âSure.â She leans her shovel against the wall and follows him out. âI gotta use the ladyâs room anyhow.â
Strange. Sheâd not had anything but a glass of juice today but she really needed to go- not to mention her stomach sort of hurt. When she comes out, Bennetâs waiting at the kitchen table, the wilting wildflowers in the pretty little vase that Sanders had bought for her their first winter together.
âDonât ya have work today?â She asks, crossing into the kitchen to look for an aspirin. âYer cowâs ainât gonna miss yer singinâ?â
âAw, Sar, donât tell me you forgot.â He pouts. âThe Pete is extremely hurt.â
âHuhâŚ?â
âShe probably just doesnât want to go out on the town with a tub of lard.â
Oh boy. Thereâs her partner, at it again. She swallows the pill and walks out, hands on her hips.
âPete, quit it right now. I ainât havinâ yaâll get into a brawl right now- did ya finish the plants?â
âYes, I did. Unlike someone who didnât finish the coops- are the hens sick?â
âNaw, that was Sara,â Bennet supplies helpfully. âNothinâ a day out wonât cure.â
âYep! And then weâre going back to Flowerbud where we are gonna-â
âShe canât.â Sanders shakes his head. âAnd I ainât saying that just cause I hate ya, but if sheâs puking like thatâŚâ
âI took medicine!â Sara protests. âStop being an ass. Yesterday was yer day.â
âAnd we had a huge harvest, remember? We weren't done till sunset! It ainât fair and-â He stops abruptly, peering into her face. âWoah, you look pale.â
âYeah.â Bennet nods. âLike paper. I'll take a raincheck on the date, don't worry.â
âGo lie down.â Sanders steers her to the bedroom, plopping her down on the bed. âBennet and I can finish your chores, you just rest easy, hear?â
âUm.â She wants to protest but she is feeling dizzy. âFine, I guess.â
âGood.â
As he walks out, she hears Bennet loudly complaining about how his âfree dayâ has turned into a work day. Poor thing. At least his cows got a day of rest from that singingâŚ
Sheâs out like a light as soon as her head hits the pillow.

When a week passes with little improvement, they send her to the city doctor with Parker.
âStop fussing over me,â She growls as they get off the ferry. âItâs just a stomach bug.â
âWell even so, we gotta make sure youâre well, Sar.â He grabs her hand and guides her around a hole in the sidewalk. âDonât worry about the visit though- I know this doctor. Heâs been real good to my family for years. In fact, when I was born-â
âGreat. I get to be prodded by the old man that stuck you in the butt when you were a kid.â She rolls her eyes. âIâm probably gonna be the first person in the family to ever see a doctor, ya know? How embarrassing.â
âThatâs alarming.â They pause in front of a building, and he pulls her into a kiss. âIâll meet you in the cafĂŠ across the street, okay? See you in a bit.â
When they meet up an hour later, itâs a white-faced Sara who calmly tells him that she needs to go home, no everythingâs fine but sheâs not in the mood for pizza and a movie today.
Sheâs so fucked.
 ~ ~ ~
âSara, long time no see!â
âHeya, Erik.â She smiles as she lets herself in the front gate. âHowâs it hanging?â
âWell, the kidsâ tutor just went home, and Biancaâs out for the afternoon- say hello, Lucia.â
âHi.â The five year old peers around her fatherâs leg before running off.
âThey get so big so fast!â Sara exclaims. âThey werenât no bigger than grasshoppers when I saw âem last.â
âKids are like that, huh?â The man laughs. âSo, what brings you out here?â
âUm.â Her cheerful expression falls, a more worried one replacing it. âItâs⌠um⌠I gotta talk to ya about somethinâ.â
âSure, sure. Weâre friends, right? Whatâs the matter? Issues with the plants? Or that Union-â
âNo.â She shakes her head. âLuckily not that today. I just um⌠remember how ya told me that theyâre⌠actually can we do this inside?â
âSure?â He looks puzzled. âThat serious, huh?â
âI might have done something real dumb.â She sits herself at the table and rests her head in her hands. âGoddessâ sake, I fucked up.â
âDaddy, whatâs âfucked up?ââ She nearly jumps out of her skin at the young voice coming from underneath the table.
âMason!â Erik scolds, bending down. âSorry to take your fort, buddy, but can you go play with Lucia now?â He coughs. âAlso, donât repeat that word, especially not around your mother.â
âAww. Okay, bye.â He gets up and takes off, and Erik shakes his head with a laugh.
âKids, huh? Okay so whatâs the matter?â
âRemember a long time ago when you um⌠explained some things for me?â Her face is hot, and sheâs reluctant to lift her eyes to look at him. âYa know⌠about how those two wereâŚ. made?â
âYes but I donât follow. Please donât tell me you want a recap. That was awful enough the first time.â
âNo!â Sara shakes her head. âAbsolutely not! You were just saying that⌠you and Bianca had to get married when they were⌠after they got made, right?â
âUh huhâŚâ His eyes widen. âWait, are you saying-â
âYep.â She looks at him through her fingers. âAinât that somethinâ?â
âCongratulations!â He jumps up from his seat. âThatâs great news, Sara! When is the wedding? If you need a flower girl and a ring bearer-â
âThere ain't gonna be a wedding.â
âHuh?â Erik stops his excited movements. âWhat are you talking about?â
âThere canât be a wedding âcause I donât know who the pa is.â She exhales shakily. âI wasnât⌠expecting this.â
âYou donât know who the- oh, Sara.â Erik shakes his head. âPlease, spare me the details- but how?!"
âI will. And I... would have to tell ya the details to answer that question. But Goddess, Erik, what am I supposed ta do?â She clenches her fists. âA kid needs two parents, right? There ainât no way Iâm doing this alone- not cause I canât but cause it ainât fair to the brat. Not to mention my partner-â
âSanders, was it?â
âIt might be his⌠or it might be Parkerâs or Bennetâs. No matter what it's gonna disrupt our household and I'm scared.â
Erik is silent for a long while, his brow furrowed in deep thought. After a time, he reaches out, taking her hand in his.
âDonât worry about them. Just worry about yourself and the kid and everything will be okay.â He smiles at her warmly. âI know youâll make the right decision.â
âErikâŚâ She finds herself tearing up, and sheâs grateful when he passes her a tissue. âT-thank you.â
âDonât worry, I wonât mention the tears. Bianca was just the same.â He chuckles. âSeriously though, Sara. Three guys? Youâre at least planning to tell them, right?â
â⌠Yeah.â She sniffles. âI guess I gotta, right? Boy, but wonât it break themâŚâ
âWell⌠if they love you, then theyâll do whatâs right, wonât they?â
âYer such a damn optimist. Ya wouldn't be saying that if you'd met my dorks.â She giggles. âThanks, Erik.â
âWhat are friends for?â
~ ~ ~
Itâs a week later when she invites them all to supper, a meal sheâs barely able to get through cooking without tossing her cookies. As they tuck into the meal, she surreptitiously glances around at the three faces surrounding her. Crybaby Parker, Overconfident Bennet, and of course⌠Sanders.
Each one of them is so, so special to her. In their own ways, they each completed her. They are her family, for better or for worse. She needs them.
What will she do if she has to lose one of them for good?
âGuys. I got an announcement.â She straightens up, her nails digging into her palms. They're all looking at her eagerly, hanging on her every word.
Poor suckers.
âIâm pregnant.â
Notes:
Idk I randomly thought of this this morning and decided to slap it together. Sorry.
This goes after Four and before For Better or For Worse.
Yep, cue Sanders fainting and hitting his head on the floor. And three idiots running helter-skelter for blue feathers.
Erik is Sara's friend. That was my main inspiration for this.
Also Sara's that bad 'aunt' who teaches the kids bad words when she comes over. I'd like to think one of the twins starts to mimic her accent and drives Erik and Bianca crazy.
