OK, as you can probably tell by now, I've been into an another obscure Sega title. That being Motor Raid for the Model 2 arcade system. After seeing a certain GIF of the game a week ago, I immediately wanted to try this in MAME.
Let's say, I had some fun playing it, but there was a problem, a rather big problem: I couldn't perform the Turbo Dash for crying out loud! Dx
Well, that is because I played it on the keyboard. The game was originally meant to be played on a motorbike with an analog-based accelerator, which you get to quickly twist it twice to boost your way through the race tracks (that's obviously what the game tells you to after all). On the keyboard, I learned that it is clearly impossible to use the Turbo Dash, perhaps the most important mechanic in the game (digital "on'n'off" deadzone when a key is pressed, not inbetween (years ago, I played the PS2 version of HL with the keys as I discovered this, no doubt the stupidest idea ever, moving on :/). As a result, most of (if not all) my playthroughs were unsuccessful with me not reaching 1st place or running out of time (even with Gunz (potential blorbo??🤔), who is arguably the fastest racer, low accel. stat notwithstanding). :( Like, I tried sort of a workaround with seperate keys assigned to Analog values (Inc/Dec) for accelerating to try simulating the twisting, but sadly, it didn't work.
It goes without saying that, I didn't experience the game to the fullest. Also, I just found out that the game was ported years later as part of an Arcade in a Yakuza spinoff Judgement for PS4/PS5. One question to ask is: why hasn't Sega ported the game to the Saturn or the Dreamcast (I think this could work as a DC game imho :P), it perplexes me. :/
Guess what, I will soon be switching from Chrome to Helium! :D
Anyway, it's mainly because Google had decided to "kill off" the search box by completely replacing it with their AI chatbot to make it more... "intelligent". They will be rolling it out next week.
You know, I'm so fed up with Google or the entire Big Tech in general persuading us to use AI, while (I guarantee) the change will pose the significant risk of hallucinating delusional facts.
Speaking of which, recently, I actually did install Helium and migrate my account there. However, I will be changing the browser in less than two weeks (1st of June this year). Yeah, I tend to schedule my own "resolutions" sometimes. :P
I think Helium's neat; it's just like Chrome, but more compact and, most importantly, without the nonconsensual AI file (really, 4GBs? :/).
You should probably do so, too! :D
OK, since there are two exchangeable names for the blog, you might be asking "when does the Sundry Freeman come into play?" Well, I'm planning a merger of the Lefty Freeman blog, which I have lately underutilized (the Eclectic blog is more or less LF 2.0 :P) . This means that I will be posting my Music 2000 VFX creations as well as material about various games from Valve, especially Half-Life (I've been pacifically* a fan of the franchise (or any Valve series) since long ago, I don't fancy playing FPSes much, just consuming fanon content. :P).
The fusion will come into effect 16th of May this year (the day the Resonance Cascade supposedly happened in-universe in HL), so please look forward to it, until then. :D (click Keep reading for the asterisk footnote)
The full-res version of the logo (made w/ Music 2000 ofc :P)

For those who don't know me, I've been emulating retro games over the years, especially the PS1 (obviously :P). For months, I have had a problem with DuckStation lagging like crazy on certain games (mostly Music 2000 (ironically for my VFX work) or pretty much anything graphic-intensive).
I just realized that all I had to do was change the graphics adapter to NVIDIA's and that got rid of the lag entirely. Now I can make VFX (or just play the games) like normal again! :D
So, today, I woke up to my surprise when I noticed a lot of notes from the GIFset I posted (then promo'd) yesterday. Also, more notes from other (PS1/90s/y2k) posts had eventually followed suit, which made me feel very appreciated. :P
Honestly, I didn't expect to get this much engagement since forever (excluding the teen years on YT), thank you so very much you guys! :D
To all the followers, I would like to warn you though, the blog will not only feature content of PS1 games and those aesthetics, but also other niche interests like stuff from other game platforms, demoscene, personal blorbos, basically anything I directly want to post/share with you really.
The blog is called Eclectic Eric for a reason! :D
Um, regarding the #men tag, I'm sorry, I couldn't resist adding it in favor of rb'ing stuff with my blorbo Mike Haggar recently (there'll be more characters than just him💙), so I have to say one thing; mechattack, you left me no choice! :P
