âPlease Host please stop,â Bim whimpered from where he was strapped to a table.
The Host ignored him as he ran his hand over the tools available for him to use. Years of silently wasting away in a cold, damp basement had led to this very moment.
His hands plucked a tool for the pile, a screwdriver that was meant to unmake and put together items. It was perfect for what the Host needed at this moment. A way to rewrite the wrongs done to him.
âBim. Bim Bim Bim Trimmer. Terror of the Fazberaâs establishment,â Host spoke and Bim cringed into his restraints at being reminded of what he used to be. âBim Trimmer who can only think of his aches and pains,â The Host continued. He lazily walked around the table Bim was strapped using his fingers to map out the edge.
âHost pleas-â
âDonât call me by my name Mr. Trimmer!âÂ
The Host approached Bimâs head and lay a hand on his shoulder ignoring his whimpering.Â
âYou never listened to my cries Trimmer why should I listen to yours?â
Bim didnât have a response as he breathed heavily staring at Host in horror.
âDo you know of the panel in our brains,â Host asked as he drifted a hand up to Bimâs head and brought the screwdriver to Bimâs temple, âthe one that forces hard resets on us? How it purges us of our precious ideologies about power and guilt.â Host sneered at the last part with the optics in his eyes lighting up for the first time since Bim destroyed them.
Both of them froze as he was able to see for the first time in years.Â
âHos-â
He slammed a hand into Bimâs mouth and was satisfied at the crunch he heard coming from the joint. Bimâs mouth flapped open now but he couldnât produce actual words.Â
âQuite an improvement considering I told you not to call me by that name anymore, âHe said with a big smile. His eyes were piercing Bim who had to look away from what he saw in them.
âBut Mr. Trimmer Iâll pick a special name for myself that you can call me,â He finally began pushing the screwdriver into Bimâs head and over the sound of his shrieks, âYou will call me the Author. After all I will be rewriting you from the base up into something better than the waste of space you are now.â
The screwdriver was shoved in deeper past the pain receptors and Bim howled. The Author merely smiled down sweetly at Bim as he twisted the screwdriver cruelly.
âDo you feel the difference yet Bim? Even if I were to stop now would you ever be able to trust? Could you ever recover from this?â The Author said gleefully.
Bim was openly sobbing in great heaving breaths as tiny rivulets of oil dripped from his eyes in a mockery of tears. His eyes pleaded with the Author who drank in the sight with his newfound sight.
The screwdriver scraped against something and the Authorâs smile turned menacing, âFeel that Bim? Thatâs what Iâve been searching for.â
Bim was struggling against his restraints before the Author finished talking. The Author watched him in amusement for a moment before leaning down over Bim to whisper, âCareful there Mr. Trimmer or my hand might sli-â
A shoe collided with the Authorâs face and he stumbled back letting go of the screwdriver.Â
âHost! What the fuck are you doing!â Everest screamed from the doorway with clenched fists and a shoe less foot.
The Author stared for a brief second before a smile emerged on his face and he began walking forward, âDear Everes-â
âDonât you start that flowery bullshit talk with me,â Everest spat out, âyou can piss right off if you think you can talk like that to me right now.â
Bim let out a weak whimper staring at Everest and their eyes flickered to him and softened before glaring back at the Author.
âYou wanna try explaining that truthfully this time?â Everest asked.
The Author merely grinned, âWhat truth could I give that you would believe?â
âOh fuck off with that,â Everest shot back, âyou take your abuse for dummies language and shove it up your ass! âDear Everestâ this and âmy hand might slipâ that, youâre nothing more than a pathetic cartoon villain wannabe!â
The smile slipped off the Authorâs face and he took a step forward, âAnd what do you think you can possibly do against me?â
âMe?â Everest asked. They put a hand up to their chest and shook their head, âItâs not me you have to worry about.â
A beast that had been staying quite in Everestâs shadow slowly came out. Yan was already growling with all her fangs bared even before she saw Bim. The Author took a step backwards as eight more tails slowly slid into existence besides Yanâs one tail.Â
âA kitsune,â The Author whispered.Â
Bim whimpered and Yan leapt straight at the Authorâs face with her jaw wide open.Â
There was a few seconds of chaos as the Author and Yan rolled around in a terrifying ball on the ground that Everest took advantage of to run to Bim. He was jerking on the restraints and Everest reached over with shaking hands to sooth him, âLet me let me just calm down.â
They were strong and Everest had to really pull on the release to get them to open but they slowly clicked open freeing Bimâs legs first and then his arms. With the last restraint gone Bim shot upwards and clawed at the screwdriver in his head to take it out. Everest grabbed his hands before he could pull it out, âDonât! You might cause more damage weâll have the Googles do it.â
Something crashed behind them and a low pained cry had both of them flinching. Yan had her fangs stuck deep into the Authorâs eyes and she was pressing down. The Author was scrabbling at Yanâs jaw trying to pry them open but she growled and whipped her head back and forth. The Author screamed as Yan began crushing his face in her jaws.
âYAN! Enough!â Everest cried. There was a few seconds where it seemed the kitsune wasnât going to follow Everestâs orders before relunctantly Yan dropped the Author on the ground where he keened as he clawed at his ruined eye sockets.Â
âWhatâs all the ruckus is here?â Wilford yelled as he burst in. Yan growled at him from where she was curling around Bimâs legs and Everest felt instant relief run through them. âWhat happened in here?â
Everest grabbed Bim by the arm and pushed him towards Wilford, âIâll explain later Wil but could you please take Bim to the Googles. I-I have some things I need to take care of here.â
Wilford looked down to where the Author lay keening on the floor and back up to Everest who nodded. âOne delivery coming right up,â Wilford told them with a wink, âyou better dazzle me with the story for this later.â Everest gave them a smile and Wilford pulled Bim out with Yan following at his heels. She paused at the door and made a strange yip before rushing out.Â
With everyone but Everestâs newest shadow gone they approached the Author kneeling down next to him. Erik whined behind Everest, all nine of his tails twitching in agitation, but he didnât stop them.Â
âTh-,â The Author gurgled and Everest merely waited, âThe Host would like to extend his apologies for what has happened.â
Everest sighed and lay a hand on his shoulder, âNice to have you back Host.â
âHo-how?â
âHost...you never say âmeâ or âIâ so I knew something was up right off the bat,â Everest explained. The Host made a horrible wheezing laugh from the ground as he began to tremble.
âHeâs going to come back,â The Host whispered.
âWeâll be ready next time. Youâre not alone Host,â Everest said. She rubbed his shoulder as Erik stepped up to nose at the Hostâs hair, âYouâre not alone anymore.â
