In close cooperation with »BStU«, the Office of the Federal Commissioner Preserving the Records of the State Security Service of the former G.D.R., Fraunhofer IPK is developing a system for the virtual reconstruction of the ripped files of the former G.D.R.'s Secret Security Service (Stasi). Der ePuzzler ist eine vom Fraunhofer IPK entwickelte Rekonstruktionssoftware, die mithilfe komplexer Algorithmen der Bildverarbeitung und Mustererkennung gescannte Papierfragmente automatisiert zu vollständigen Seiten zusammensetzt. Außerdem stellt sie Werkzeuge zur Verfügung, um fragwürdige oder doppeldeutige Puzzleergebnisse manuell zu prüfen und zu korrigieren. Die Technik ist noch nicht im Einsatz! Es ist wohl noch eine Frage der Zeit, bis dahingehend Lösungen gefunden werden können.
