Also fast. Wenn man genug Zeit mitbringt ... Weiterlesen ->
Something I desperately need everyone to understand is that Epi-Pens do not work the way they do in movies. They're not magical anti-allergy devices. They're "hopefully buy you enough time to get to a hospital for treatment" devices.
Also, epinephrine is a hell of a drug. We use it because it's better than literally dying, not because it's harmless. It will absolutely mess you up for a while even if you survive the allergic reaction.
It terrifies me when people have this idea that allergies aren't a big deal because "you can just use your Epi-Pen." It just doesn't work like that and it's dangerous to perpetuate the notion that it does.
Blue to the sky, orange to the thigh, please take this seriously because I'd rather not die.
Having survived so many life-threatening experiences, mostly involving deadly food allergies, it kind of feels like I’ve beaten death.
I really should not have all this confidence.
Okay, as much as I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Zootopia 2, I am going to critique one scene.
(Going to link to the YouTube Video below instead of embedding it).
Zootopia 2 Scene where Gary De'Snake Saves Judy
Any medical professionals/practitioners/etc. please feel free to weigh in.
I've mentioned that Gary carrying around the Anti-Venom Pen reminded me of an Epipen, because I HAVE one. I have severe allergies. Thankfully, I've never had to use it (the thought of being stabbed with it actually scared me as a kid) but if I ever did, I know how--and it's not a stab "straight into the heart." It's a jab into your thigh.
So the only other thing I could think was that this was was meant to reference that cult-classic film (not naming it because I think Tumblr flagged the name) as sort of a hidden egg for the adults, specifically the scene where they jab that girl in the heart because of the [dire medical situation] she was in. But still, I wasn't sure if there's ever an instance where jabbing someone directly into the heart with a needle or syringe to save them like that was legit/would work.
But a quick Google search even said that [redacted movie] scene was not 100% accurate, and doctors/medical experts would strongly advise NOT to do this, as it can cause more damage than good to the heart/lungs.
Also, my mom made a good point when we were leaving the Zootopia 2. She actually, for a moment, thought Gary had only saved Judy. I reminded her that, he went back to save Maple with the Anti-Venom Pen, and she made a face and said, "But he only had enough of a dosage for one injecton. All of the other pens or canisters or whatever fell out of the bag over the ice cliff." I told her those weren't extra Anti-Venom Pens, they were markers....but what she made an excellent point and it got the wheels in my head turning....
In the movie, it appears they animated only 1 Anti-Venom pen in Gary's bag, and a bunch of markers. No extra pens or canisters or whatever. So Gary technically only had enough for a 1 dose/injection...for Judy.
With a real Epipen, its one dose/injection per pen. It's not like you use up half of the medicine in the pen and have some left over--it's all in one go.
SO UNLESS I'M MISSING SOMETHING, it doesn't seem the animators accounted for the accuracy of that very well.
The whole concept of Gary HAVING an Anti-Venom Pen to treat those having a deadly-reaction to his venom is GENIUS. But was these other little details they could've tightened up more.
----
That said, if I actually missed something in the movie (I told mom the writers/animators were probably just not worried about the kiddies catching that observation like she did), or there's something I'm overlooking regarding the medical standpoint of how this should work, please feel free to comment!
