Solidad
I think you missed the part where Tavros says he wasn't touched by Gamzee ?
Solidad
The channel is weirdly quiet considering the page we're on
MissFinefeather
He said he was mentoring the kid in loveAlso, he said Gamzee didn't do a bad touch, because Gamzee can't do anything bad. He didn't confirm or deny molestation
Solidad
The content warnings at the start of the Epilogues does not include pedophilia
and I would hope that Hussie would have included that
GhastlyGhifin
yeah
Solidad
I think Gamzee's "love mentoring" would have been his usual inappropriate rants about "FiNe PiEcEs Of AsS" or whatever
It's bad
but not straight-up pedophiliaI still think John should take Tavros though
MissFinefeather
Is the next page any better?
Solidad
I think so
let me check real quick
MissFinefeather
page 24 in candy
Solidad
Yeah that one is better
less traumatic at leastthough that's sorta debatable
it's still a bitch of a page
NoBrandMinda
Not going to lie, it'll be a few pages before you're at anything resembling "the all clear."
GhastlyGhifin
Yeah.
Solidad
The Epilogues' wild ride never ends
MissFinefeather
I think I'm just going to end it. Another Oner. I'm not much the mood to continue
Solidad
Fair enough
Remember when it seemed like Rose relationship with her mother was the most fucked-up thing in Homestuck ?
good times
GhastlyGhifin
Remember when characters weren't forced to do horrible things for shock value?
NoBrandMinda
One of the writers on the Epilogue later did a Q&A and clarified that no, Gamzee did not actually bad touch Tavros, because Tavros denying it really isn't that strong of a defense. (Frankly, I'm slightly alarmed that people do take Tavros at his word considering that's just how traumatized children act) Even so, I don't think that's much of a comfort. They said earlier that Gamzee was making out with one of Tavros Nitram's ghosts, and he would be 13. So it's still looks like Gamzee was grooming little Tavros, even if he wasn't touching him yet.
Wakraya
A very tough page
Hugs
MissFinefeather
Hugs
GhastlyGhifin
Yeah, it gets better about...3? pages from here, I think.
I don't know specifics because i refuse to look back at that trash heap.
Solidad
I'm honestly glad I started with Meat and not Candy
I don't know if I would have continued reading if I started with Candy
MissFinefeather
Makes me wonder if I'm just going to blow through Meat... Or at least go at a much faster pace
GhastlyGhifin
Maybe
Solidad
Depends on your reaction to some things
Meat isn't a walk in the park either
GhastlyGhifin
From what I hear Meat dosen't throw as much bullshit at you out of nowhere
Wakraya
Ssssh. >:o
I'm over-exaggerating the protective no-spoilers thing btw X3
Solidad
It's feels more like a story and an epilogue than Candy, that's all I'll say
MissFinefeather
After all this, I wouldn't bat an eye if Meat's just a murderfest at this point. The slow burn social fears is so much more terrifying. At least everyone knows Lord English is the bad guy, but Jane...
Jane's tyranny is so much more real, and it's so much more personal.
Solidad
The family stuff is what really gets me
Solidad
hits way too close to home
Lots of familly drama over here
GhastlyGhifin
Plus, Gamzee's there. And seemingly untouchable in his bullshit clown seduction field.
MissFinefeather
Well, personally, the political tyrany hits me just as, or even more than that right now. I'm a trans person, I relate so much to what Karkat is going through. When he mentioned hearing what politicians say, there's a reason why I peg him as a gogdamn hero. I keep hearing politicians saying horrible things about trans women, and then people try to silence me by saying it's "just opinion" when people are literally trying to suspend my rights based on that "opinion"
GhastlyGhifin
Yeah...
Solidad
Yup
Wakraya
Yeeep.
GhastlyGhifin
I can see why this would be such a strenuous thing to read though.
Wakraya
It paints too real of a picture of that shitty mindset. And that pain of like. Action vs Inaction.
MissFinefeather
It's strenuous because Jane keeps winning. She keeps coming out looking better than the people she's arguing with it. I hate is so goddamn much, but it's so goddamn true to life because assholes like that just know how to twist your words
it's frustrating...
GhastlyGhifin
She is certainly being painted as in the wrong though, despite her "wins".
Solidad
I would hope soIf she wasn't that would quite the shitshow
MissFinefeather
Yes, we can see she's in the wrong, but we aren't the once with the power here.
Solidad
The inherent frustrations of being an observer
NoBrandMinda
And the frustration of living in the real world where the Janes keep winning
Solidad
Yeah...
pablo360able
I'm the guy who was all “Jane has a dark side that nobody ever talks about” when you got to the point in the non-canon snapchat where she mind-controlled Jack and even I'm beyond taken aback by the direction the epilogue has gone with her character. And I can't tell if the obvious real-world allegory makes it more meaningful or just a thousand times more horrifying.
GhastlyGhifin
Jane was clearly okay with doing some shady business stuff from the beginning. This is just the...."logical" extreme of that.
Solidad
I've said it before but Jane is a rich capitalist goddess who belong to the dominant group of people on Earth C
it was to be expected
pablo360able
It does feel weird thought; she was clearly okay with shady stuff, but we never got to see her do anything with that, even as Nanna, if you don't count when she was under the Condesce's control (which I don't). Although given how much she's apparently capable of, if we'd even seen a sliver then it would have been hard to think of her as a character we wanted to see succeed.
Nora (fae/faer)
And she was raised to be the next Condense, not easy to ignore that
Solidad
yup
not including the possible long-term consequences of the mind-control
Nora (fae/faer)
Like, you can grow to be a good person when you were raised to be a shitty one, but it's harder
Solidad
Especially when you get that much power at the age of 19
because young multi-millionaire celebrities always end up growing into well adjusted adults
