Look Alive, Sunshine [Drabble]
((Tagging Torii 'cause I think you'll enjoy the setting for this one x3 ))
The boarded up, once radio station was abandoned. Or looked it. But, if one ventured in, through the unblocked backdoor, they would chance meeting the young blonde who'd lived there for a few months. She'd worked here a while ago, when she was younger... when it was up and running and before the colors of the city were washed away, and this place became known as the Zones. She was currently locked away in a backroom with a boarded up window. Asleep, hidden even if one walked into the room by a wall of boxed equipment. Through three locked doors she felt fairly safe, she was used to having a look out. Viper, a young man she'd know most of her life. But he'd been ghosted right before her eyes a month ago.
A groan as she awoke, and sat up eyes were blue, shocking blue that matched the colors that marked her outfit. She stood and stretched doing a check of the room everything untouched. She really needed to find a new place, she'd been here too long. That's what she was going to do today. She was going to move. She had next to nothing to take with her. And she'd had a good rest so she could move a distance away, given it was all by foot as she was better at hiding when she only had her petite frame to worry about and not a vehicle.
She looked about the place, a sad look in her eyes as she packed the small backpack she had with what food she'd saved and looked across the room. She gave it a once over look and patted the door frame on her way out of the room she'd dubbed hers. Passing briefly into the room Viper had used and picking up an old spare ray gun. Perfect condition she packed it with her things, she hadn't had the heart to go through his things he'd left behind. She took what she'd find useful and grabbed a blue spray pain can. Moving out of the room she headed out, and on the wall in the main room wrote In memory of A.V. She used his true initials on the wall and sighed. "Miss you." She whispered and dropped the can as it was empty now.
She turned and walked out of the room, not looking back any longer, or else she'd just convince herself another week would be okay. Another month... and she'd never leave. She needed a new place now. She knew of a few buildings a distance away she could use. As long as it wasn't the same place, she'd be okay. And make herself move. Maybe find a group this time, two had been fine but it was lonely now.
Hours later, tired and hot from the sun, which was thankfully slowly going down on the horizon she found a small building she couldn't tell what it had been. But she could see it'd been entered recently. Or left. Hopefully left. She silently snuck into the building. No noise. Good. A search of the place revealed it to have been some sort of bakery it looked to be, but she couldn't be sure. Empty. She barred the door and smiled. This would do for a day, but it wasn't the most secure she'd only stay for a short time and head out once the sun was gone, she should have waited anyhow.
Making her way to the back, having glanced around to ensure no one was there she wanted to check for food. Tuning in her radio she set it up, and played it low. She avoided high traveled parts of the zones and felt secure. She listened to the news of the zones pour from the station before music came on. She had it low but sang along anyway, her voice hardly louder than the music, wooden spoon in hand as a makeshift mic. She danced around the kitchen area, with no luck in finding any extra food she let the music guide her instead and turned around, freezing as he noticed a figure leaning against the door frame, dropping the spoon.
The man jumped, rubbing the back of his neck, trying to cover that she'd startled him. "Sorry to scare you... but you should watch out more... I could have been a Drac, you'd have been ghosted like that." He snapped his fingers and crossed into the kitchen and picked up the spoon handing it back to her. “I’m Party Poison by the way” He smiled and brushed his hair out of his eyes.
“Thanks… I-uh..” She sighed softly trying to regain a bit of composure. Even under his mask she could tell he was good looking, that wasn't helping the blonde woman at all. She held out her hand, setting the spoon on a counter top she turned back to him. "Biohazard Bunny, Call me Bunny."
"The pleasure is all mine." He winked, flashing her a smile. Bunny felt butterflies in her stomach. Oh not good... This man was not someone she needed around... Someone else to get attached to to watch be ghosted by the next set of dracs...But maybe, it wouldn't be so bad. Ugh. She bit her lip. She'd probably only see him this once...
