Melissa allowed the paper to sit on the table and she squeezed his hand lightly. He looked… happy. Which made Melissa feel comfortable instantly. “I hate to admit that I am a little shocked. Even though she clearly has not gone through menopause yet, but still. “It’s going to take some time to adjust to. With Scott being the age he is and Allison being around the same, it’s…” her voice trailed off. Weird? Melissa did have her son at a young age. She raised him on her own. “I just hope we can make this work.” and not have to raise a baby on her own again.
“Of course we can.” Chris didn’t doubt it for a second. He.. was still hurting because of Allison and Victoria, yes, but it wasn’t like that anymore. He would always love them, but now? Melissa came first to him, he would protect her with his life and care for her until he couldn’t care any longer. “Whatever you need, we’ll get it done. I’ll go that way with you.” He wanted her to know he didn’t plan to run off the first chance he got. He wasn’t that kind of guy, but she knew that. He .. he could be a father again.
