The Enneagram is confusing and mistypes are rampant because most people figure out their type based on nebulous traits like “creative,” “intuitive,” or “perfectionistic” instead of being taught the core underlying structure. 😭
My hope is that this little pdf simplifies the Enneagram into its barest most useful parts, revealing:
the lie each type tells themselves (and why) 🐍 🤫 the behavioral loop each type gets stuck in ♾️ why each type is so h0rny for their for core type’s struggle 🥵

SO5s want to live up to intellectual ideals. They feel bored with ordinary life and people, and seek higher meaning. They do this through collecting knowledge and being a totem of knowledge for others. They often have intellectual heroes they want to live up to, but they tend to dehumanize others in their pursuit of intellectual greatness. They're the most cold and arrogant of the E5 subtypes. They're very conscious of social hierarchies and want to have a high social standing, but despite this they feel uninteresting.
SX5s want complete union with another person. They idealize romance and because of this they hold their partner to high standards, wanting the relationship to be the perfect one they envisioned in their head. They’re highly withdrawn and distrustful, and long for somebody they can fully trust and feel safe with. They avoid social interaction for fear of being hurt, but when they finally let their guard down, they exhibit a more vivacious side. They expect their partner to let their guard down just as much, due to their intense need for trust.
SP5s want to shield themselves from the world. They feel overwhelmed by the demands of life and other people, and due to this they retreat and hide, watching the world from the sidelines. They need a refuge to feel safe in. They're prone to hoarding, fearing a lack of resources. Despite this anxiety around survival, they try to get by on very little, denying their needs because they feel this is what gives them autonomy. They also place great emphasis on conserving their energy. They're obliging to the requests of others, not wanting to expend energy on conflict, but they're secretly resentful, often feeling used and abused.

SO4s feel that they aren't living up to social ideals and they feel immense shame for this. They want to fit in and be accepted, but they always feel that they're doing something wrong and that they don't belong. They always compare themselves to the people around them and feel that they pale in comparison. They become attached to suffering and can even find beauty in melancholy. Rather than lashing out, they swallow their poison and maintain kind and proper behavior. They place a lot of importance on behaving correctly, which stems from their fear of not having what it takes to fit in.
SX4s are the most blatantly envious of the E4 subtypes. They compete with others to gain approval, even going so far as to make others suffer. They believe this will expel their feelings of deficiency. Despite their intense sense of lack, they act arrogant and aggressive, trying to cover up how inferior they feel. They feel like the world is against them and that they must fight to reclaim what it takes from them.
SP4s swallow their envy and often aren't even aware that they have envy. They see suffering and endurance as the key to being loved and recognized, which gives them masochistic tendencies. They're extremely stoic and believe that they must always keep their emotions private. They're the most self-sacrificing of the E4 subtypes. They fear a lack of resources and they rashly go after what they feel they need for survival. They're prone to risky behavior due to this.

SO3s want to be seen as prestigious and successful. They long for a perfect public image and they'll change their behavior to fit in with whatever social group(s) they're a part of. This switching of personalities and behaviors makes them the most chameleonic of the E3 subtypes. They believe that their worth is based on their status. They feel that they have to be significant in the eyes of everybody. Thus, they're constantly going after achievements, social standing, and wealth. They're the most openly vain of the E3 subtypes, but this vanity isn't obvious to them.
SX3s rigidly conform to gender roles to be seen as an object of desire. They feel a deep need to be validated by a significant other and to achieve this they cultivate their image, working hard to appear desirable both physically and behaviorally. When they're in a relationship, they strive to be the perfect partner, believing that this will calm their insecurities. This results in them overindulging their partner and not prioritizing their own success and independence. They lack a solid identity, since they place so much emphasis on being desired. They continuously repress their own needs, focusing only on their partner.
SP3s prioritize an image of efficiency and productivity. They don't want to appear vain. Rather, they want to be seen as reliable, hard-working, and helpful. They crave security, money, and a stable position in the world, which often results in them being workaholics. They tend to identify themselves through their roles and performances. Being seen as a good and supportive person is a guarantee to them that they won't lose the people they're dependent on for validation.

SO2s want to be indispensable to the social group(s) they're a part of. They're drawn to leadership positions and desire to climb the social ladder, wanting to be the most important person to everybody in their community. They often weren't valued as children and thus seek a social position where they'll be recognized and applauded. Their pride takes the form of ambition and the seduction of social groups. They don't just want to rule said groups, but they want others to rely on them and see them as essential. They want to be a person of reference and are extremely opportunistic and strategic. They're the most cold and intellectual of the E2 subtypes, using their mind to rise to the top of the social sphere.
SX2s want to be desired romantically and their pride manifests in being irresistible to others. They desire a stable, loving bond with somebody more than anything and to achieve this they indulge and flatter their romantic interest. They often take pride in the amount of romantic conquests they've made. They draw people in through charm and generosity. They're extremely impulsive and histrionic, which can pave the way for turbulent relationships. They believe their worth is dictated by how desired they are by others.
SP2s fear not being cared for, so to secure love and care they use childlike charm to seduce others into taking care of them. Their seduction is more innocent and sweet than it is in the other E2 subtypes. They care for and dote on others, hoping that this will lead to them being cared for and doted on in return. They have an often unconscious belief that they're the most important thing and thus wish for others to cater to them. They fear growing up and thus their give to get strategy largely revolves around ensuring that they won't have to show up in the world and take care of themselves.

SO1s want their environment and the people in it to conform to their ideals of perfection. They often take on a teacher role with others, trying to reinforce their ideas of “proper” behavior. They're the coldest and most intellectual of the E1 subtypes, often seeming unapproachable and distant. They're highly inadaptable, believing that they're superior and therefore don't have to follow along with mainstream social customs. Their anger manifests in coldness and rigidity, and it tends to leak out when others won't follow along with their ideals.
SX1s want to reform others, especially their romantic partners. They hold themselves and others to often impossibly high standards. They're highly jealous, believing that somebody more perfect will steal their partner, and therefore they're extremely controlling and paranoid in relationships. They're the E1 subtype where anger is the most openly expressed and are known to be quite aggressive people. They idealize intimacy and romance and experience anger when these ideals aren't met.
SP1s want to perfect themselves. They believe that their survival depends on being perfect. They feel that they're highly flawed and must work to fix this. Though they do hold the outside world to high standards, they're the least expressive with their anger. Rather than let it show, they're warm and kind. They're extremely self-demanding about good conduct. They're the most anxious of the E1 subtypes, worrying obsessively about meeting their standards of perfection. They're also the most caring and are often highly concerned about providing for others.
