Man charged with 53 offences over hate graffiti in NSW

A 21-year-old man has been charged with 53 offences relating to hate crimes committed in Sydney’s Inner West.

Last month, officers from the Inner West Police Area Command initiated an investigation after a slew of offensive graffiti was discovered in the area.

Multiple political corflutes in Newtown, Enmore, and Erskineville and the heritage-listed LGBTQIA+ venue, the Imperial Hotel, were targeted.

On 24th April, the Police released images of a man seen in the vicinity of Erskineville Road, Erskineville

He was wearing a black hoodie, black shorts and black thongs.

“The NSW Police Force takes hate crimes seriously,” a police spokesperson said.

“And encourages anyone who is the victim of a hate crime or witnesses a hate crime to report the matter to police”.

Damaging and spraying offensive messages on buildings and political posters.

On Sunday, the 21-year-old was arrested when police came across him spraying graffiti.

He was taken to the Newtown police station, where he was charged with over 50 offences.

“At about 12.20 am, officers from Inner West Police Area Command on general patrol,” NSW Police said,

“They allegedly observed a 21-year-old man spraying paint on decals affiliated with specific members of the community along Crystal Street, Petersham.

“Following inquiries, it will be further alleged that the man has damaged and sprayed offensive messages on buildings and political posters,

“Commencing on Tuesday, 22 April 2025, until the time of his arrest in the Erskineville and Newtown areas.”

Police claim he had been damaging and spraying offensive messages on buildings and political posters since before the federal election.

He allegedly targeted the Greens, the Indigenous community, the gay community and the Jewish communities.

Man charged with over 50 offences.

On Sunday morning, Felix Kiera was charged with twenty one counts of knowingly display a Nazi symbol.

As well as twenty-three counts of property damage and eight counts of intentionally marking premises without consent.

Plus one count of entering enclosed land without a lawful excuse.

He has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Local Court.

Owner of the Wattle and Bee plant store in Petersham, Felicity Moody, told the ABC she was “very grateful” the police arrested the man.

He was caught spraying over the Trans, Rainbow, Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal flags.

“The police officer just happened to be driving past as he was attacking my shop,” she said.

“I’m very grateful, I was woken up at the middle of the night last night by the police to let me know.”

“Those flags have a lot of meaning, to not just myself but to my customers.

“I will definitely be replacing them, this is not going to put me off.

“If anything, it’s just given me further ammunition to do what I do and be as welcoming and as accepting as I can.”

Homophobic graffiti: NSW Police release person of interest photos

NSW Police have released images of a person of interest in an investigation into homophobic and neo-Nazi graffiti in Sydney.

Officers from the Inner West Police Area Command commenced an investigation after offensive graffiti was found on multiple political corflutes in Newtown, Enmore and Erskineville on Tuesday morning.

Famed LGBTQIA+ venue the Imperial Hotel was also targeted.

A swastika was spray-painted on a poster on the wall of the famed Erskineville venue, which was heritage-listed this month.

Police believe the vandalism occurred between 1.30am and 2am on Tuesday.

A NSW Police media statement said 30 separate instances of offensive graffiti was found in the area: 27 on corflutes, two on structures in Newtown and the swastika at the Imperial.

Images released

Police released images of a man seen in the vicinity of Erskineville Road, Erskineville at about 1.50am on Tuesday, who may be able to assist with their enquiries.

He is of Caucasian appearance, in his early to mid-20s, about 180cm tall, of medium build, with mid-length brown hair.

He was wearing a black hoodie, black shorts and black thongs at the time.

Anyone with information, CCTV or mobile phone footage is urged to contact Newtown Police Station or Crime Stoppers.

“The NSW Police Force takes hate crimes seriously and encourages anyone who is the victim of a hate crime or witnesses a hate crime to report the matter to police,” a police spokesperson said.
