Dog Days of Summer
As the summer solstice approaches on June 21, a time when the earth spins on its axis facing towards the sun, we are met with longer and longer days. While the night owls of the group may say the days are dragging on, Good St. is embracing the onset of summer here in the city.  Fill these days with some good by checking out these graciously good ways to kick-off your summer in New York City! Did we mention that these activities are almost completely free, too?
Kayak at The Downtown Boathouse Take in NYC’s gorgeous skyline on the Hudson River’s placid waters at the Downtown Boathouse, a non-profit organization run completely by volunteers and public donations that encourages safe public use of harbor water through public kayaking programs. Weekdays at 5PM, weekends at 9AM. Free.Â
Stargaze at the High Line Enjoy that starry night sky often overlooked in the city with the Amateur Astronomers Association of New York who provides high-powered telescopes at the High Line for all to use, answering any and all of your cosmic queries. Every Tuesday from dusk to 9:30PM. Weather permitting. Free.
Catch a flick at Bryant Park Grab some popcorn and spend a cool summer night absorbed in a classic film with fellow New Yorkers at the Bryant Park Summer Film Festival. Every Monday. Lawn opens at 5. Movie starts at sundown. Free.
Go for a ride at Governor’s Island Feel the sweet summer breeze by hopping on a bike courtesy of the island’s Free Bike Mornings Program in which visitors can borrow a bike for free for up to one hour. Every weekday between 10AM and noon. Free.
Find some treasures at the Brooklyn Flea Market Discover vintage knick-knacks and old-school paraphernalia at the Brooklyn Flea. With locations across Brooklyn in Fort Greene, Williamsburg, and Park Slope, the outdoors market attracts hundreds of visitors and vendors. And if you plan on browsing through the Williamsburg location, be sure to bring an appetite and fill up an empty stomach next door at the wildly popular food & drink extravaganza that is Smorgasburg. Every weekend 10AM-5PM. Free (to enter).
