          HEARTBEAT IS THUNDEROUS IN HER EARDRUMS AS SHE APPROACHES HIS TENT,  using muscle memory as her main source of navigational cues since the inky blackness of the night had rendered her virtually blind. she pulls back the flap of his tent, ducks into the opening BEFORE she has the chance to talk herself out of it. it’s even darker within the confines of the tent, no soft glow of the pale moonlight to aid her in her search, but it doesn't deter her. not for a second.  ❛   cole  ?    ❜  she pitches his name in a hushed whisper, HOPING for him to have already been awake prior to her arrival, but ready to leave if he had already fallen into a deep slumber.

          “     my eyes are open wide,  so i’ll sleep  when  i’m dead.     ”

     If Alex had been holding his gun, he would be DEAD. Brown eyes studied the man before him; noting hyper-tense muscles, finger posed on the trigger, knuckles white from pressure, his body almost twitching with the urge to kill. It was like standing before a mirror. If Alex had been holding his gun when the other man found him, Alex would have been shot dead without hesitation.

     But he had been holding Ronan.

     Arms tightened reflexively around the child in his grasp, trying to shield as much of the boy as he could without making any sudden movements. A gunshot wound was a death sentence out here regardless of where it hit and Alex would gladly take the bullets if it meant Ronan was spared. But then what would happen to Ronan? Barely breathing, Alex broke the silence.

     Digging through the dirt with bare hands, Griffin used a rock to lift a root from the soil and stuff it into his mouth, barely chewing before swallowing. It dropped like a weight in his empty stomach and nails broke as Griffin clawed another root free before practically inhaling that one as well. He was STARVING. The clothes on his body were little more than rags on a skeleton and Griffin smudged dirt on his cheek as he wiped his face, digging for a third.

He was getting used to his new vessel. One would compare him feeling his fingertips as a woman would walk around in shoes to see how she likes them. Hearing the footsteps far before the survivor arrives, Lucifer turns and greets him. 

‘ Is this a suicide mission or do you want to just talk? ‘
