Being an actress and somehow who is constantly in front of the camera, it only makes sense that she has grown an interest or a curiosity of how things are done behind the scenes once she steps off the set because while the actors are what brings the characters to life, it is the work of many other people such as the directors, the producers, the editors to the cameramen that made it possible for a great work to be produced and enjoyed by the public. She has tried her hand at being a cameraman during the breaks in between filming to get a feel of what it was like and seeing how much work they have to do, from setting up the camera to making sure the shots are done exactly the director wants, it made her all the more thankful for them and the hours they put in each day to make the director’s vision come true. A director is nothing without his crew and so she can understand the pride and the respect that Christian has for the ones that work with him, watching closely during the editing process he was doing for a video he recently filmed. 

The topic of family came up at some point of their conversation and while family was usually a topic that made her heart feel warm because they gave her a purpose and a reason to live the life she leads, reminding her yet again how thankful she was for the air that fills her lungs, family seems to strike a different chord with her today. Instead of the usual joy and excitement she usually gets when it comes to talking about her family, Seungyeon feels her throat being closed up and whatever emotions she has been suppressing for weeks rising up to the surface, painting a smile on her lips as she shoves the feelings back down and gives a small laugh. It was a simple question and yet she was having such a reaction to it. What are the difficulties you have as the eldest daughter? Maybe it is because she has not seen her family in awhile mixed with how hectic her schedule has been since the end of last year that has made her more sensitive than usual when it came to things regarding her family.

“There is not a lot of difficulties or worries I carry as the eldest daughter. I think my parents are the ones who have not been able to rest easy for the past 20 years due to shouldering the weight of having to raise three daughters. I am able to live each day due to their sacrifices and I do not think I will ever be able to fully repay them for all they have done.” She deems it as a satisfactory answer and while she sees that Marie thinks so as well, she knows that there is more than Marie wishes to ask. It was like Marie had a feeling that there were things that she was hiding and if so, Marie was more observant than Seungyeon thought of her to be.

“You will be heading back to Japan in a few days to continue on with the rest of the tour, right? You will be touring for the next two months and that has not included the schedules you might have in between the tour. At times like this, I wonder if you are hiding the fact that you are not a human for to be on the road for a few months at a time is a daunting task and I do not know how you or the other members are able to do it each time.” They may be of the same age but Taemin always felt older than she was due to his debut in the industry at the mere age of fifteen or the amount of professionalism and maturity Taemin showcases each time when it comes to his work, whether it be as SHINee’s Taemin or solo artist Lee Taemin. She can understand why people dubbed him as the company’s ace in her time training in SM because it leaves you wondering what is he not capable of doing when you see him pulling off whatever project he gets himself into, realizing then and there that being a performer is what he was meant to be.

“I’m sorry. You must have been surprised by the sudden phone call and felt confused the whole time. I panicked and I was placed in a tough spot so I- either way. Thank you. You helped me out.” Being a woman in this world can be terrifying but it is especially terrifying when you are in the entertainment industry and if you are not careful, you can find yourself walking right into the hands of those with ulterior motives. It had happened so quickly and out of the blue that it feels like it could not have happened at all, what with the absurdity of the situation but when she remembers how hard her heart was racing and the tone of annoyance in her senior’s voice that haunts her still hours after it happened, she knows that it was not something that was made up in her mind and unfortunately, was real. 

She had been nice. When he had offered to take her out for a drink, she politely declined him with a smile, saying that she does not drink often nor would it do her any good to do so. When he continues on his advances despite her turning him down each time, he went from being desperate to livid as he began telling her how he was her senior and that she should be following every word her seniors says instead of defying them. How he could easily have her career be gone in an instant if he wanted to. How she should be thankful that a senior like him was taking interest in a rookie like her. 

Seungyeon watches him closely with anticipation, holding her breath as she waits for a comment or a reaction of sorts with her hands clasped together. A few more seconds passes by and when she sees him giving a shake of a head while pushing the mug of the freshly brewed coffee she made, it seems that this brew as well is another failure, taking a sip of the coffee as well in her own mug and wondering where it could have gone wrong. She has an all new found respect for coffee baristas now, she thinks as she dumps the whole pot of coffee she made down the sink and sighs as she leans against the kitchen table. Her dream of owning a cafe as a child seems to be growing more unrealistic now, looking back as an adult and after struggling with a few variations of coffee she made in the weeks she has been making her own mixes after attending a few lessons at a coffee academy with a friend. Maybe it was for the best that she found her true passion and calling in acting instead. She will leave it the culinary arts to the ones who does it best, like her father.
