Lanterns Down | encephalite
It was a dark, moonless night, made darker still by the clouds obscuring the stars, threatening rain with every passing moment. Now, it was lit by fires in the village surrounding the castle, the flames illuminating the stone walls and the darkened silhouettes of ships anchored above. There was screaming in the streets from an attack only moments past; Masses of people confused by the sudden onslaught, given without warning and seemingly without provocation, in the darkest hours of the night.
The Pirate’s reasons were his own, rarely explained to anyone other than those under his comment. He rarely made deals, taking what he wanted with care and planning and showing little mercy to those that got in his way. It had earned him a reputation throughout the seven kingdoms. He was hunted and feared for his ability to escape capture, often sending his foes to crash on the land below, or vanish entirely. Not known for being merciful, there were rumors about what became of those taken aboard his ship, the Ravenstag. He was framed as a monster, a tale for parents to tell their children in hushed tones before bed, with quiet hopes and prayers that he wouldn’t turn his sharp eye on them.
Prayers were a flimsy defense against hot guns, cold swords, and careful planning. That the small kingdom found itself at war with a neighbour certainly helped his plan go as intended. There was, of course, the palace guard to contend with, but his reputation must have proceeded him; they hadn’t killed many before they were being surrendered to. Pity that the royal family-or what was left of it-hadn't thought to keep a closer eye on the loyalty of those meant to protect them.
Seating himself on the throne, one leg crossed over the other and sword held at his side, and having the king and his son brought before him was delicious. He savoured it a moment longer before speaking. "You seem to have taken a rather harsh stance on piracy, your Highness," he said, his voice dripping with contempt. "Executions without trials?" He clicked his tongue against the roof of his mouth. "I don't imagine you would like the same treatment, our positions switched, but it would do to serve your dear son a lesson. Do you think he would be less likely to repeat your mistakes?"
#god the croissants can't be people tOO
Lard is pig fat in both its rendered and unrendered forms. Lard was commonly used in many cuisines as a cooking fat orshortening, or as a spread similar to butter.
Pigs are often used as analogues for humans because their physiology, adipose, and musculature are so similar.
1-1/2 oz. (3 Tbs.) soft unsalted butter or lard is required per batch of 15 croissants
the croissants are ppl too.
