I always feel a bit sad for people who continually use the "it's canon" argument. There's nothing wrong with having a ship that's canon, but if that's one of your main reasons as to why a couple works then I've got to assume the person only ships canon couples in shows (because of course if they were to ship a non-canon couple then the reasoning they hold so dear would fall apart) and how goddamn boring is that?? Your pool of couples you want to see together is so terribly tiny this way.
I have no problem with people shipping only canon couples. Everyone ships differently. Some people ship only canon, some ship only fanon, some ship only queer ships, some don't ship at all, some ship everything, some ship only one thing.
The problem begins when people start acting like it's wrong or stupid to not ship the same way they ship. I've seen so many people try to shame people for shipping fanon. And they just don't understand. They come at us with "your ship will never be canon" and acting like or ships aren't valid and we're stupid because we ship something that isn't canon. That's when I feel sad for people, because that lack of understanding shows such narrow-mindedness and such limited creativity. People who ship fanon usually don't expect their ship to ever be canon. Sometimes they don't even want it to be canon. They're interested in exploring the possibilities of the pairing and the potential that exists there outside of the confines of the show, and that's a beautiful thing. And people hate on it because they don't understand the creativity that exists there.
I'll never understand why they feel the need to continually harass and mock fanon shippers, though. If our ships are never going to be canon and you're so sure that CS is endgame, then why do you care that people might ship a fanon ship like Sleeping Hook, or a ship that isn't on the show anymore like Swanfire? I suppose the answer is that they're disgusting people who either can't stand that people don't agree with them and like something that they don't or they need to try to make people feel as bad as possible because they're so childish and pathetic that they need to hurt people in an attempt to feel superior.
The "it's canon" argument always make me roll my eyes because it's such a weak argument. Canon does not mean well written. Canon does not mean it's not problematic. Something being canon now does not mean that it will be canon forever. If your go to argument for your ship is "it's canon", then there's a problem.
