August 22 finally rolled around. Â All of the waiting finally over: EMT-Intermediate class started!
I headed over to the campus a little after 17:00 (5 pm) to make sure I could find the school, parking, etc. Â Class didn't start until 18:30, but I like to be early. Â I also like to put in an "idiot pad" to my time, to account for any possible MVAs I may come across.
Found the school just fine, parked, and walked in the front door. Â As I walked in, two guys greeted me buy saying "thank god you're here!" Â That's a nice feeling!
OK, so they assumed I knew where we would be meeting. Â Which I did. Â Somehow they inferred by my physical appearance that I would be a classmate of theirs (Class C uniform, complete with radio).
Found the classroom, grabbed a seat, and read until things got started. Â 28 students in the class, all but 1 with an EMS/fire/rescue squad. Â
It was a fairly standard first night, I guess. Â We went over personal introductions, expectations for the class, policies, etc. Â
60 classes. Â 50-ish hours in the hospital. Â 100+ hours on an ambulance. Â What have I gotten myself in to?!
I have a ton of stuff to do in the next month! Â Health tests, physical, vaccinations, drug test. Â Need to buy supplies, more books, get a school ID. Â My head was swimming by 21:00!
I think each and every one of us was in precisely the same head space. Â If my other classes with this college are anything to judge by, I'm going to be just fine. Â It's a lot right now, but one step at a time. Â
