Staying away in droves
My friend, Jim Barry, posted this photo on Wednesday. No, it isn’t batting practice; it’s a game in progress at Comerica Park, home of the American League cellar-dwelling Detroit Tigers.
Notice the empty seats. Erstwhile fans stayed away in droves, as the joke goes.
Sure, it was a weekday game but it was a fine late-summer day and the Tigers were playing the Astros, a playoff-bound team that could go all the way.
On the other hand, it’s easy to see why dismay at the Tigers outweighs the lure of perfect baseball weather and a real team. The hapless Tigers could very well lose 100 games this year - another season in a string of incompetence.
Jim, always one to look on the bright side, wrote: “Our great seats (Row 2, 1B line) at Comerica Park were ridiculously cheap and easy to get as the 2022 Tigers slide into oblivion.”
