What first attracted your Rook to their LI?
Emmrich: Sabine first encountered him during their student years. She loved reading his published work (even if it didn’t necessarily align with their field of study) and tried to attend as many of his guest lectures as possible, especially at symposiums/ conferences/ conventions. Sabine particularly admired how Emmrich approached concepts that should be extremely challenging in ways that encourage the learner and allow for differences in knowledge and accessibility. She’d never spoken to Professor Volkarin before the events of Veilguard but had tangentially worked with Johanna Hezenkoss during undergrad. She had to work very hard not to immediately fangirl when Bellara introduced her.
Lucanis: Sabine has of course heard of the Demon of Vyrantium, but she was blindsided, totally unprepared, for how attractive he is murdering Venatori. His knowledge of coffee, and the care he puts into making meals really seals the deal for her. It didn’t take much but she fell hard and fast.
What attracted their LI to your Rook?
Emmrich: Emmrich was not intending to enter into a relationship during this rather hands on consultation. However, the quiet evenings spent going through different theorems and hypotheses while sipping on special Nevarran tea blends shifted their intentions fairly quickly. They talked of home more, what it was like growing up without family, how their respective research became so formative for their personalities, and they just fell into each other.
Lucanis: It was Sabine’s comfortable presence that drew him in. She already kept every warm drink known to man available (mostly in her room, since the others regularly committed war crimes in the kitchen) and had stashes of sweet treats and baked goods. Of course it wasn’t until after he banned everyone from the kitchen that he learned that she made them herself (another point in her favour, and her kitchen rights restored). It wasn’t until much later, when he was yet again taking Sabine dinner because she had forgotten to eat, that he realised how MUCH he cared for her. And it certainly didn’t hurt that Spite trusts her so completely.
Is their relationship a secret? Who knows about it?
Their relationship isn’t secret. It does take some manoeuvring between the three of them in the beginning though. Emmrich of course is the most reasonable, this isn’t his first rodeo per-say, but all three suffer from intense self doubt and they eventually lean into each other for comfort and support with plenty of self care checks and balances. (It’s very much a “Excuse me he asked for no pickles” situation). The whole Veilguard knows. Bellara has been in on it since the start as she and Sabine have been writing each other for years.
Unbeknownst to both Emmrich and Lucanis, Sabine digs into researching how to hear Spite. She is absolutely convinced it’s possible and determined not to leave him out. Sabine makes a breakthrough after her trippy outing with Davrin. One of the first things she hears Spite talk about is whether or not she can do something they talked about during Bellara’s book club pick…
If your Rook took their LI on a romantic date, what would it be like?
Sabine’s date for Emmrich and Lucanis would be a picnic at an arboretum. She would hand make all of their favourite things (that travel well), and lay out a large plush blanket with lots of pillows. She would bring a full tea service and have French Orlesian press coffee, as well as some liqueurs she made with flowers and herbs they’d gathered while traveling, and plenty of desserts.
What does life look like for your Rook and LI after the game?
