"What time do they go on again?" Emira leans in to ask Yasemin, nodding at the stage of the Phoenix. Fox and his brother were playing and while it's not really Emira's first choice for a night out, she doesn't mind being their with Yas. Thanks to their moms, she's able to have a rare night apart from her daughter. "Danny's out with the usual suspects, but I don't envy the hangover he's probably gonna have tomorrow," Emira snorts, content with her single beer for now as she nudges her sister lightly. "Does Fox know you're gonna be here?" She's seen the way he looks at her sister (anyone with eyes has) but Emira's been holding her tongue considering her sister's interests currently (and regrettably) lay elsewhere. @waterfallswords

Each test Emira grabs from the shelf feels like a nail in an invisible coffin. It's probably a fluke anyway – being late a few weeks isn't unheard of. But each week that passes feels more and more like an omen, like an alarm is going off in the distance until Emira finally caves and heads to the pharmacy. She finds herself in the family planning section of CVS, doing her best not to look conspicuous as she paces the aisle for at least ten minutes. She's in a hearty debate with herself over whether she's being ridiculous or not. After all, it's been weeks since she's seen Danny. They aren't anything anyway. This won't be either. So she grabs one more test before rounding the corner to the register, running right into someone, all the while looking like a bat out of hell. The tests scatter at her feet and she swears, uttering a hurried sorry before crouching to collect the boxes. Only when she looks up a second later is she convinced that the universe is playing some sort of cosmic joke on her. "Kenzie...hi." @dxrkenedheights
