This may surprise you - I was using my ghost hunting EMF meter and when a family member turned on the microwave, I was quite surprised on just how bad it was so I ran my own test. I mean, I knew it was bad, but this put it into much better perspective.  So I checked out my cell phone too - yea - yikes!  I give a few ghost hunting EMF tips at the end as well.

EMF Meter/Radiation Detector is used for the detection of EMF radiations. It's a world-wide-used app. EMF Meter/ Gauss Meter/Radiation Meter can easily be installed to your android phone. EMF Meter works by using the sensor of your android handset. The EMF Detector – Gauss Meter is the best app if you want to detect Electromagnetic field in your surroundings. This App is quit handy to use. EMF Meter also detects electronic devices because those devices emit EMF radiation and electric field.

To use the EMF Detector and Gauss meter App, you just have to move around your phone in your room or in your surroundings to find out if there are any EMF radiations. EMF Meter gives magnetic field reading in µT (microtesla) which is equal to 10 mG (milligauss).

When we first saw an EMF meter in the show, it was in 1.04 "Phantom Traveler", and Sam didn't know what Dean was holding in his hands. And we learned that Dean made his EMF meter himself, out of a busted-up Walkman.

So either Dean did a second EMF meter when he did the one he owns in 1.04 or some time after. Or he showed Sam how to make one out of a busted-up Walkman.

Maybe Dean did a second EMF meter for John since he was hunting solo/ without Dean at some point.

Maybe Dean did a second one after John abandoned him, before going to California to see Sam and ask him to find Dad with him, in case he comes back with him, into the family business.

Bonus: Dean being proud of himself because his EMF meter is homemade and he IS the one who made it.

Location:

The Kent Stage in Kent, OH.  This historic theater, constructed in 1927, first presented "Talkies" or motion pictures that had the newly added feature of dialog & sound, as well as occasional vaudeville acts.  Today it hosts everything from musical acts to films and the Kent Paranormal Weekend, which features noted authors, researchers and presenters in the Paranormal field, and includes Ghost Walks and a Ghost Hunt because the theater is also notoriously haunted!

Background:

One of the highlights of our appearance at the Kent Paranormal Weekend was participating in our very first Ghost Hunt!  The event took place at the Kent Stage in Kent, Ohio which was first built in 1927 and since then has continued to host concerts, films, and various performances.  The theater is also host to a cast of characters who were once somehow connected to this historic theater and whose spirits remain there.  We explored the most haunted areas of the theater and tried our hand at documenting spirit activity, guided by experienced paranormal investigators Theresa Argie & Cathi Weber, known as The Haunted Housewives, Ray "Gooz" Goosby, Jeff and Susie from the North Canton Paranormal Detectives team, and theater owner Richelle Charlton. One of the techniques we tried is trying to capture an "EVP" or an instance of Electronic Voice Phenomenon, which some claim could be evidence of communication with the spirit world. Electronic Voice Phenomena are said to occur when a question is asked aloud in a haunted location, or even unprompted, and what sounds like a reply is heard in an audio recording.  This hunt captured something we're convinced, believe what you may, and that when you call out into the void, you might get an answer.
