something about Fiyero immediately locking in with a plan to save Elphaba the millisecond he sees a little girl strutting down the road in Nessa's shoes, despite the fact that he was fully convinced that Elphaba would abandon him immediately due to his crippling self doubt and body dysphoria, is so. so sad to me.
like. he is 10000% sure she will leave him the second she sees him and he still spends days- weeks, even, planning everything and lying to people and doing everything to just save her a final time.
the way Fiyero has operated his ENTIRE life as an act because he fears nobody will like the real him, so he pretends to be nothing more than a smoking hot, flexible, rule-breaking play-boy so people will "like him." and he finally finds someone who likes him for HIM and not his looks or status or ability to move all sexy-like. and he tries so hard to be friends with her. but before anything can really develop, that girl disappears. and so he does the only thing he KNOWS will help her and subjects himself to who knows what kinda stuff under the Wizard, he leads along a girl he doesn't actually love and is eventually forced into a marriage because of it, but it works out because, hey, at least he made sure nobody killed the girl he REALLY loves. and everything is going well. until he saves her AGAIN and then he's presumably tortured and strung up, and she casts a spell. yay he's alive.
except now he doesn't have his looks. because he doesn't have his looks, he doesn't have his status, popularity, and probably can't go back to his family. he can't even move the way he used to, so he's reduced to lumbering around the road and relying on a teenage girl. he cant even physically PROTECT the girl he loves. and he's worried sick as people start hunting her, but what can he possibly do? well, he uses what little smarts he has and saves the girl through faking her death, but he's so deeply convinced she won't love him again. because, unlike the girl who has always been hated for her appearance, he's only been loved for it and so now he has crippling self doubt because WHAT IF SHE SECRETLY ONLY WANTED HIS APPEARANCE TOO? and so he spends the entire journey before saving her for the third time thinking that she'll leave him once she sees the 'monster' he's been reduced to, because everyone else would.
For the sake of making Fiyero suffer (#are they even your faves if you don't give them unnecessary trauma), I am now deciding that up until Elphaba explicitly sung "let him feel no pain," he felt every. single. moment of the transformation. All the way from the first 'eleka nahmen' to 'let his blood leave no stain,' he felt his skin peeling away and sewing itself into burlap, his organs melting, bones dissolving, blood literally boiling itself out of existence (also doubles for being terrified of fire, b/c technically based on the spell even that shouldn't hurt him, but if the last thing he felt was his body being so hot his own blood evaporated, yeah, he's gonna be a bit scared of intense heat), and of course all the previous torture. And then after "let him feel no pain," it just goes blank, and he's confused, and he think's he's died, and he glances down except why is his neck so floppy and he can't really see anything out of the ordinary because all he sees is his clothes, but he feels that something is wrong (technically, he doesn't feel which is wrong) and so he tugs against the ropes which weren't even secured all the way because the Guards had dislocated his shoulders, bashed in his knees, and secured the burlap sack to his head and neck before putting him up on the pole, so they weren't terribly worried about him running away in the first place (which also works better for the timeline because now they could have made him incapable of running away in Munchkinland, then traveled with him via horseback to the cornfield with the pole, so it makes sense as to how Dorothy got him down despite arriving to Oz before he was transformed since horeies are faster than a girl in the worlds worst walking shoes), but anyway he tugs on the loose ropes which should be, by all means, incredibly easy for him to remove since he can't feel pain except he can't even do that and he starts panicking because why can't he move like normal. Because he's not feeling pain, so its not like that's whats inhibiting him from moving, except he doesn't even understand anything yet and ngggggggggggggggggh.
And when this little innocent girl Dorothy shows up, he practically begs her to let him down, and he's never shown this much emotion to anyone and he still doesn't know what the hell is happening to his body and then he just. Entirely crumples as soon as Dorothy lets him down, and he can't feel anything but he's fairly certain he shouldn't bend that way and- whats all this hay doing on the ground, its prime corn season nothing should be dead- and then the little girl immediately, perhaps a bit too touchy but shes just trying to help so who could possibly blame her, turns him over and begins to grab the hay and stuffs it back into him and Fiyero still has 0 clue what he's been turned into so maybe he yelps and backs away because why is this little girl trying to shove hay into my body and then he looks down and he sees the hay spilling out and he wants to gag but he doesn't have the throat to gag anymore so all he can do is stare with wide, wide eyes at his new body with his ankles twisted backwards underneath each other like a pretzel. And so he reluctantly lets little Dorothy put everything back in because he realizes this is his life now, being dependent on others for not withering away and for walking normal and he suddenly thinks, wait, what does my face look like? And he can't even find out because Dorothy isn't exactly carrying a mirror so the first time he sees his face is probably in Boq's new tin skin, so they're literally reflecting one another physically and symbolicly as men who really aren't that straight forward with their feelings to women, and said women decided to enact revenge in one way or another, which led to their physical transformations.
So Cynthia had this on her Instagram and 1. ADORABLE
But 2... actually Fiyer-crow looks a lot better in this lighting? like in the trap door scene he honestly looked yellow, but in normal lighting he's actually quite cute. like the yellow is definitely still there, but its not as bad, and his eyebrows are much more defnied. i do wish they kept his cunty black eyebrows, lips, and little mouth lines, though :/
but overall, the more i look at him up close, the more i like him :)

So I've seen a spike of Gelphies (or Fiyero antis- I'm not exactly doing a background check on their blog to see where their shipping stands) claiming that Fiyero telling Elphaba, "it's not lying, its looking at things a different way" was backhanded, and I saw someone paraphrase it, saying "you're pretty for a green girl," someone else said, "you're beautiful but only on opposite day," and then someone on Twitter said, "yeah bae ur lowkey hideous as fuck but i somehow find you attractive so be grateful I'm not like everyone else."
And even on here, which is usually bounds better, people are bringing up Glinda's "why look at you, Miss Elphaba. You're beautiful," as proof that Fiyero doesn't actually love the way she looks or is disingenuous or that Fiyeraba is somehow less because of this. And this all also ties into Gelphies or Fiyeraba-antis (again, I'm not running CIA background checks to figure out which it is) claiming that 'As Long as Your Mine' is a ballad of nothing more than friends with benefits and that they know they'll break up because of the one line, "say there's no future for us as a pair," and I genuinely can't even imagine being that stupid and blinded by hatred of a "straight" ship to think that's true.
List of things I did like in the movie, because I'm going to be complaining for a while but wanted to make sure people know I didn't hate, like, the entire thing or whatever:
The way Elphaba used the whip against the Guards... oh someone sedate me... good lord
The line of Elphaba saying "not you too" in the Wizard's throne room after 'Wonderful' to Fiyero was instead transferred to right after 'Thank Goodness,' where he "hunted" her and said some bad things. And in this, she said "even you," which I like a lot more because it shows how based on what she knew from him, she fully expected him to hold out more than some other characters who's names rhyme with Balinda. Like, 'not you too' just means he fell for the propaganda and that she's rightfully devastated, but not much else. But 'even you' means that she thinks it's gotten so bad that the ONE person to stand by her fell to it as well. Also, the way she must have gone back to Shiz to grab Fiyero's newspaper, I'm unwell. Cause, like, that paper was specifically about him being spotted at Shiz, and newspapers don't keep selling years after their initial publication. So she snuck back and grabbed it. OR, she had it folded up in her coat the whole time, which is also cute.
Fiyero actively using his position to usher the other Guards away from Elphaba's hiding spot- he 100% saw her given his split-second side eye to her hiding spot before he said to return.
NESSA AND BOQ'S RELATIONSHIP. Although it was very minimal screen time, their development in those... five(?) minutes was phenomenal. Boq begging Nessa not to sign the law banning Animals from travel, but her succumbing to it and throwing Munchkins in as well as to appease the Wizard and remain 'good.'
Nessa (and me tbh) absolutely thought that Boq was going to axe her when he stumbled out
Nessa crying for Boq during the tornado, I'm gonna be sick
They got rid of the "well it was like that" line from Fiyero, which I really enjoy. He was always weird for that, but in the movie, he just intensely stared at her. Also, Glinda told them to leave versus Fiyero dragging Elphaba out, which as Glinda's #1 hater (me no no like bullies and ppl who are a-okay w/ fascism until it bites them) was very nice. Like both Fiyero and Elphaba honestly looked like they expected Glinda to come with them, but nope.
I wish they had more domestic time in ALAYM, because I honestly thought we would get it due to Fiyero's mirror and toothbrush in the website, BUT!! It was phenomenal nonetheless. The way Elphaba teases Fiyero and he chases her around... how he deliberately kneels before her... how he told her she's beautiful after he saw the propaganda, how it must be effecting her, and went, "Well, this just won't do!" and how she didn't believe him and he made her believe him... hnnnnng
THE TORNADO. Actually cool as fuck.
I enjoyed Glinda using the Animals to do her hair and such, plus the butterflies. Although the film didn't really touch up beyond that? Like I would have assumed Elphaba would be angry, since Glinda is just aesthetically harming the Animals, but whatever
NGD was beyond phenominal
ALSO ALSO ALSO. The way that when Elphaba sings NGD, she has flashes of Fiyero being tortured- but in black and white. Because, obviously, we all know the Wicked Witch's origin in TWOO, which is famously going from black and white (technically sepia but you get the idea) to color. And so, when Elphaba is through with being good, and embracing the title of the Wicked Witch, it shows her breaking point (Fiyero) in black and white to symbolize that switch.
FIYERO SHAKING THE ENTIRE TIME HE HELD GLINDA AT GUN POINT. "If its so good for him why is he trembling."
A little crumb of Fiyero and Chistery alliance, though there really should have been more.
I'm laughing at everyone who insisted that Elphaba continuously went to go see Glinda and whatnot, because now we know that the first time in five years Elphaba saw Glinda was strictly after she thought Fiyero betrayed her and then she saw the posters. Because Glinda kept something akin to the "thank Oz you're alive" line, and it really read as them reuniting for the first time.
The Wizard talking about how nobody will believe Elphaba, or even himself because they'll see what they want to see
I feel bad for Elphaba, she finally allied with the Wizard and Glinda immediately starts talking about getting married n' shit.
Get you a man who walks through a forest during a tornado
The Guards singing "lalala" from Popular was hilarious
Chistery speaks!
The entirety of the WITF and Popular reprise in EDMW, very much so showed how as Glinda rises in power and lies to herself about the terrible things shes done, and how shallow shes being
Fiyero's sad puppy dog eyes
Both Fiyero and Elphaba 100% knew he was going to die when he told Elphaba to leave
someone in the fiyeraba discord said they think that fiyer-crow has his stupid little hat because the other guards put it on him to mock his love and devotion to Elphaba, and oh god it makes sense because i don't think he ever had a hat before he transformed so like where the fuck did it come from and dear god i'm going to be SIIIIIIIICK
