on a personal note, i would like to share with you some random music/videos i love by people i am lucky to know. for your summer pleasure. support these lovely creatures. The Due Diligence - Cool (isaac's voice can actually be heard far back in the male choir on "hips&envelopes". his band the due diligence will release their new album on august 5th and i am so into it.) Der Nino aus Wien - Grant (it took me a while to get into what nino is doing but by now i have reached the point where i get goosebumps at his live shows and explain to my mother in detail why this is just brilliant.) Love Cult - The End (these two. apart from probably being the most photogenic couple among musicians worldwide, anya and ivan are lovely, smart people who make disturbing music and beautiful videos and live in a place in russia i didn't know existed before i met anya.) Eloui - Personal Politics (you can see eloui being one of the participants in my latest video and oh, how i adore this woman. musically brilliant, with a heart full of details and side notes and noise-making apparatuses and a stage presence that stops everyone in their tracks.)
Sweet, Sweet Moon - Woppy (there are moments in sweet sweet moon live concerts when boots are coming off, microphones are stuck in shoes, fingers get tangled up in already tangled up cables on the stage floor, mic stands tilt over, and someone in the audience always has this "what the fuck..." look on their face. this is usually when i start grinning the most and just want to high-five them. there is so much chaos in there and things seem to be constantly overflowing. how wonderful)
Tirana - Red Hills (veronika can be heard in the background vocals on "big houses" and Tirana is just one of her many music projects (others are, for example, Ilsebill and Lime Crush). this is the first song i ever heard of her solo endeavors and i was immediately enamoured. the lyrics, guys. the lyrics. don't let anybody take that away.) Fee Reega - El Hombre che fuma Heroína (fee just released a brilliant new album in both spanish and english, but i'll post this older video here because it's been stuck in my head since last night. i also had the pleasure to attend her wedding earlier this year, which was pretty great. this woman has so much energy, so much love for words, and a great, wicked, sense of humor. she's also very well dressed.) Mute Swimmer - Time Song (guy dale recently teamed up with a band for his upcoming new album, and this is a peek into what it is gonna be like. i've had a couple of very delightful conversations with him in the past, about making art and music and the intersection of both. i have also seen a few slightly intimidated people at his unplugged acoustic gigs, which is something i always enjoy. "song against itself" from the last album is probably one of my favorite songs in the world. this will be a very good album.)
