hello!! To very briefly summarize it, tumblr has rolled out a “new feature” called reblog chains where each new addition (reblog with comment) to a post essentially hijacks the post. From what I understand, the commenter from then forth gets all the engagement rather than the op. So if someone were to reblog/like the commenter’s reblog, the op wouldn’t have a clue about it
It’s a feature that follows in twitter’s footsteps, trying to prioritize some sort of competition for engagement rather than fostering community. Ironically, this implementation is actually going to kill engagement overall, because tumblr at its core is about strangers talking to each other, meeting each other, connecting with each other through the things they choose to share, and to mess with that is messing up the whole reason why people like staying here in the first place
