I’d say his reaction would depend on where he was emotionally regarding Helaena: if it was still a burgeoning crush that could be confused with simple familial affection, or if he had fully realized the depth of his feelings for her. If it was still early in his emotional journey, I think he’d agree because his sweet sister comes to him for help, and you have a duty to help and honor your family, right? (<- That’s Aemond trying to make sense of why he’s so happy Helaena doesn’t actually want to wed their brother btw)
If his feelings were fully realized, I think he’d not only help her try and end the betrothal, but also likely insist that he and Helaena were engaged instead. After all, Helaena doesn’t want to marry Aegon, Aegon is indifferent to her at best, and by marrying Aemond and Helaena their royal house can still have a Targ/Targ wedding and keep their bloodline pure. And, of course, Aemond can be with Helaena.
Also! I’d say that his reaction depends on if she asks before or after he successfully claimed Vhagar.
With Vhagar came a new sense of confidence and fearlessness for Aemond, and I think that this coupled with Helaena’s request would give Aemond a sense of everything just being right: He finally claimed his own dragon, he finally showed his father and the rest of them that he too is worthy, and he finally might get another dream of his.
Once again this is quite messy! I’d write more of my theories on how Aemond would react but my brain is on go to bed-mode. Thanks for the ask!
