Happy birthday to Charlotte Brontë! The Brontë siblings liked to produce miniature magazines for Branwell's toy soldiers, which may have led Charlotte to later write "The Secret" and "Lily Hart" in this tiny script on eight small sheets of paper. Many years later, the Miniature Book Society published "The Scale of Genius," which describes these little books and is bound in a facsimile of "The Secret." As you can see from the first picture, the text is almost exactly the same size in both!

#WizardlyWednesday: To bring a little magic into your life, here is the cover of WordPerfect: The Magazine, volume 1, number 1. The magazine debuted in January 1989, seven months after WordPerfect 5.0 was released. The magazine is part of the Samir Husni Magazine Collection, a recent donation to MU Libraries by Mr. Magazine™, Dr. Samir Husni.
As we head into the weekend, we've got a fun one for you: a rebound set of John L. Stephens' "Incidents of travel in Central America, Chiapas, and Yucatan" (1841). The books have been rebound with fresh leather, but the binder kept the original cover with its distinctive stamp and pasted it onto the front pastedown, almost like a doublure. It's a nice way to remember what the book used to look like before the repairs.
