Today’s #tbt post comes from 1961: “With the completion of the new east wing addition to the library, now Missouri has the tenth largest library building among all universities and colleges in the country and ranks in the top twenty-four for size of book collection. A book budget which is tenth in the country has raised the collection from 30,000 volumes in 1900 to 900,000 volumes in 1960.”
Ah, those were the days.
Greetings from the University of Missouri Library in 1915! This is a postcard featuring the architect’s rendering for Ellis Library (with a little added Christmas magic). The building was completed in September 1915 and dedicated in January 1916.
If this sketch looks a bit off to those of you who are familiar with Ellis, that’s because the library was never completed as planned. Learn more about the history of Ellis Library, and enjoy the holidays!

While picking posters for our new exhibition in the Ellis Library, I found this kitten peaking out from the poster Save a Book! Poster by Hollis Denn Onken, 1984.
Some useful advice for the weekend before the finals week, when the library is packed and the stakes are high.
