There were always consequences to being well. And maybe that was an excuse Justin was less than enthused to use, but the size of this place, the distance, and the state of his head when he was on something like this, it made it easy to miss things. Things like what had happened to Sam and Eli, things like the span of time and how many days had actually passed in the meantime. Justin caught a passing comment about it while he was on his way to eat and stopped dead in his tracks, because he knew what came next wouldn’t be easy.
He had to talk to Eli. He’d had to talk to Eli for a while now. But it was past time now and he didn’t know how to start. Justin frowned at himself as he searched the camp, debating the pros and the cons of continuing to use this medication in a setting like this. And it wasn’t until he spotted his friend in a relatively secluded corner that he quickened his step, already looking regretful as they finally came face to face.
“E...” Justin sighed, slowing to a stop in front of him and tucking his hands in his pockets. Attacked. Monster. Monolith. He scanned the other man anxiously and beat back the part of him that kept imagining the man the last time they’d really spoken at length, covered in blood and...traces of soot. “I-I heard about Sam. And you...what happened?”
